Southampton get £16,000,000 for England U19 International Calum Chambers

Charlton get £400,000 for England U19 International Diego Poyet

Poor negotiation by Charlton or the rules that favour the beast that is the Prem League?

Chambers wasn't out of Contract to Arsenal had to agree a big deal.

Poor Negotiation by us was simply in the contract department :(

16 million seems a crazy price. Arsenal are usually careful with their money, though Ozul needs to do a bit more this season to justify his fee. When I see a fee that is too high or too low, I always wonder what other conditions and financial shenanigans are associated that we don't know about.

Surprised Poyet didn't go to Arsenal. He would get better development there. They don't sign then neglect players like Chelsea. He might get more games at West Ham but Arsenal could have signed him and sent him out on loan. He is only 19 so has plenty of time.

There was no negotiating to be done for Poyet. He was out of contract.

Now if you mean that the whole system is bonkers you will get no argument from me.

I've gotta say AHLL, that I don't see them as similar cases. We had Poyet under contract, we failed to renew it when there was time, and when we found out we'd got a diamond with a short contract, so did everyone else, and it went beyond us. Had Poyet been under contract, other clubs would have had to at least negotiate with us. 400,000 is a joke, but it's one we built ourselves.

I think it's even simpler than that. The kid had no intention of staying or signing. Everyone I have respect for had been saying for years that Poyet would come good. He refused all offers (I know that slater even took him aside) to renew and he said no.

    We were mugged off.

The compensation does not even cover our investment.

Sorry Ken, I am a simple man with a simple perspective on life, Southampton had a England International going through their Academy and managed to get him to sign a long term contract, we had an England International who we couldn't sign to a contact and lost him for beer money.... somebody didn't trust their Academy management and offer Diego a proper contract!

I see that Les Reed is getting dog's abuse on the Southampton message boards. There certainly seems to be something whiffy going on down there. I thought his role was to build the Club up from the Academy, he seems to have turned into a frontman for another foreign owner asset stripper.

Can they blame Reed? All of this will be going on above his head surely?

Southamoton odds for relegation have now dropped 4/1. Though the bookies insist they have no knowledge of a possible sale, they are just following the betting patterns. I had them in an acca on Friday night at 11/2.
