Listening to DM after the game, sounded like neither side played well but we didn't pass and move as we have done in recent weeks which is particularly diappointing seeing as how the lads have had a week to rest and go again... I must admit that I would have been happy with a point as we don't ever seem to do well at Derby and it sounds like we should have had it with Derby scoring with their first attempt on target, AFTER AN HOUR... I haven't seen it yet but various reports suggest that the ball went through DJ and if so, it wouldn't be the first time that he has cost us point(s) this year with the calamity antics. I thought that when DM came in, it re-focused everyones minds on being professional and performing to maximum expectations on a consistant basis (which is the recipe for success in this division) but it seems that maybe this is slipping again with a few. The honeymoon period with DM is over as far as the players are concerned and I hope that that unlike some of his predecessors, he is ruthless and will not tolerate sub standard performances as ultimately, his job depends on it Before anyone accuses me of it, this isn't about finding a new hobby horse. Of course all players make mistakes (or there wouldn't be many goals) but the one position where this is not acceptable is goalkeeper. Defenders can get away with errors sometimes but a mistake by a goalkeeper is far more costly as it almost inevitably leads to a goal... DM can afford no passengers in our push to stay up/move up the table, and I am sure that he will have no hesitation in doing the right thing for the team - its time for DJ to shape up or it will be time to retire to the artists studio... p.s. Ipswich just gone 3-2 up at Barnsley after being dead and buried at 2-0 down at half time. We need to show that sort of character EDIT:- make that 4-2...
Last week DM when drawing took of midfielders(trying to win it) for winger and striker. We lost. Today DM when drawing took of Cisse(trying to win it) for a striker. We lost. These tactics might be successful against the likes of Aberdeen (Rory Fallon - ex Plymouth scored for them today) but this is the Championship and DM might have to rein in his ambitions.
redprint we lost because of david james not because of Del boys tactics, don't be so negative to the man
So if Maynard scores a goal that's why we win,not the fact David James could have pulled of 4 world class saves. Is that the kind of logic you're implying?
You can't make that sort of comparison, everyone has their own job to do and anyway, when did that last happen then...?
POB,Alright we'll go the way of,the strikers miss 10 chances it's ok,the defence make 1 mistake it's their fault,is that what your saying?
Point is, if the strikers miss regularly, they are dropped... Thinking about the earlier point, I do agree however that whilst I am in favour of trying to win games, we don't seem able to cope with a change of formation mid game. Needs some work...
Shiny, having seen the second goal on the TV , how the hell can you say that DJ made a mistake? If that is a mistake ,i think every goalkeeper in the land must make them, everytime they get their hand to a shot that goes in.
I'm with Myfred on this. It may be that James will decide to throw the towel in at the season's end, but I believe he will still win us a whole bunch of points until then. No keepers are infallible, even the ex-number 1.
The Championship is so open that every point is vital and we appear to have thrown away the opportunity of putting 3 solid points between us and the bottom 3. I hope that Del read the team the riot act after we capitulated. Teams around us got some unexpected results yesterday (Portsmouth, Peterborough, Ipswich, Millwall) but we're now being sucked right back into the clutches of Forest and we simply have to beat them. There is a gap that's widening week by week above us after the results yesterday.
the sooner we get a new keeper the better, loach is a must in january, then we can move james into the coaching system
Redprintt has reared his ugly head again..............................can I detect that he's having ago DM already!!!! I predicted he would be back as soon as we lost a couple of games.
Come on, this is an over-reaction isn't it? We've undergone a radical improvement and this is a tough league. One or two results are going to go against us from time to time. Surely we think things look better? Surely? There are many teams in this league who would love David James between their sticks; there are even more who would love Nicky Maynard upfront. Calm down, boys.
Shiny, have you actually seen the goal?,and BJA for once i'm with Redprint ,if DM had settled for the draws we'e have been 2 points better off. It's okay going for the win when your up amongst it ,and it looks brilliant when it comes off,but at the moment we just need to grind out the points to get clear of relegation.
yes ive seen the goal, and if your telling me a man of more than 20 years of experience at the highest level of football couldn't of done better there then god help you, hes to old now, and past his best, kept about 2 clean sheets all season
I will never criticise a manager for trying to win games. It's great he has the positivity to go for it and I wouldn't change that for the world. As for the David James out calls are you guys actually serious? My days Gerken is an average shot stopper and nothing more, watching him at crosses is worrying every time. If you looked at recent games DJ has made some top saves, soton first 10 mins from Lalanna springs to mind, same as a great save against Burnley from Rodriguez when scores were level. If those had gone in we'd have most likely lost and be 6 points worse off, he's not perfect and never will be but seriously he's hardly a bad keeper..
Mcinnes has already stated that the formation that we play with one attacker is not his normal way of playing, we have lost to a side in the 91st minute when with a better ref/linesman we could of been winning that one already, but that's luck of football. Lost yesterday away and we are already getting on Dels back saying the tactics are wrong. Wait until he has his OWN team and then judge him. We are a better team with him in charge
Having watched the goal a couple of times, I am not convinced that he couldn't have stopped it and if you watch, his reaction afterwards speaks volumes and suggests that he felt the same. Anyway, I'm not saying DJ out... The most encouraging thing was the obvious anger and disappointment shown by the players. As long as we have that, we will be ok but we need consistant levels of performance. Obviously we are going to lose games, I just want to feel that the players have given their all when we do and it sounded like we were below par yesterday... Bad day at the office, we move on. The Forest game was a big one before yesterday, now, its MASSIVE - we have to win it (and I don't ever remember beating them at AG in all the years I've been watching the City)...
