Disappointed but....

  1. I'm glad we tried to get a quality striker or nothing.

I'm glad we didn't panic buy ****ing ****e like Carlton Cole.

I still think we can get enough goals to finish in the top 10 with what we've got now. I think if Best stays fit he can get over 10 goals as well as Demba Ba. I also see Shola popping up with around 4/5+ goals.

All we need to do is stop conceding cheap and last minute goals like we did at times last season. We've conceded only 1 goal so far, which could have been avoided but it can easily be worked on. Our defending ****ed us up as much as our lack of quality up front last season. Our defense looks a lot sturdier, especially in the center back area.

I'm still quite happy with what we've got lads. It could have been a lot worse.

We'll have to ride our luck a bit with fitness and injuries, but hopefully we wont get ****ed in the arse and keep, if not all, most players fit and ready to start games.

A great big massive humongous positive is that we didn't sign Carlton Cole and well done for highlighting this.

To all the nay sayers and doom merchants.

Repent! Repent your foul words for we have been delivered from certain destruction.

Who are you and what have you done with Tash?

Agree with some of this, yes we didn't get a striker and it's a loss. But we have added some good players. And we haven't lost a game yet even without a LB or the next messiah (even if the messiah was a Costa Rican no one had heard of), now we have a LB the team will only get better with time to gel.

I'm glad we didn't panic buy either, but I think we only 'tried' the latter....i.e nothing!

Panic buying is not something you can accuse this regime of, no way. Its taken us 7 months to sign a replacement left back (ok he is a right back but he still counts) and no striker. We've known for 7 months we needed these two players (unless you were one of the deluded few who thought Jose was staying). Working on this basis I believe we will get our new number 9 in February 2012. Oh hang on the window will have just shut. Summer 2012 it is then!

I don't like all this positive spin rubbish. If something is ****, say it is ****. Not having a PL standard striker and not signing one in 7 months is ****.

  7. I'd say Leon Best and Demba Ba, potentially, are a better pair of strikers than most of the other clubs below the top 6 have mate.

Best has gotten 8 goals in 11 pl starts, which is a good total, and he's unlucky not to have more. A goal called offside vs Arsenal, unlucky that his shot vs Spurs bounced out of the goal.

Demba Ba's finishing looks awesome, and he just needs time to get settled. He looked very good vs Fulham when he came on. He got an assist and hit the bar with a shot.

Shola and Lover are decent cover, Best and Ba are a good set of strikers if they can get some form and keep it.

Trouble is we didn't try hard enough or, more likely, didn't try period to sign a decent striker. The bid for Bryan Ruiz was made, in my opinion, in the knowledge the player would not be signed and to allow Pardew to say that it was not for the lack of trying that we failed to sign the promised quality striker.

  9. I agree the club could have done a lot more to try and sign a striker, but i'm also glad we didn't get a total parcel of ****e on the wage bill like Carlton Cole.

People on here were raving about how we need to sign Ba, and were more than happy when we got him.

Now all of a sudden he's ****e, make your mind up FFS.

Agree with Tash happy with the players that have come in and can push up into a striker role (Obertan, Ben Arfa)

We have made a great start to the season and can still see teams out there a lot weaker than us.

So we didn't make a big signing on the last day. Deal with it and move on.

I don't support the board, I support NUFC and the 11 players who run out on the pitch.

Plus Ben Arfa can only provide more goals when he's finally fit! And Cabaye has the most assists in Ligue 1 last season!

I don't think we've known for 7 months that we needed a LB. Enrique had said he'd wait to sign to see if the club avoided relegation. That only happened a few months back; not 7.

Yes we needed to replace Carroll but that was never going to be the easiest of tasks. In fact; that's likely the toughest task the club had to fulfil.

Our stock in the footballing world isn't the greatest due to off field commotions with certain players, the well documented mistrust between fans and board and an unclear public display of ambition.

The club would have to pay over the odds to get a 'top class striker' and I'm not referring to a 20 goals a season type either. Take into account that all the clubs know we sold Carroll for £35 million so every player we went for as a replacement was instantly overvalues by the selling club.

It's a tough ask for the club to get a player in and only pay what he's really worth rather than an inflated price to cover the selling clubs greed.

We seemingly wasted time with Erdinc who didn't want to come.
We seemingly tried in vain to signing Gameiro who had his heart set on Valencia or the soon-to-be new kings of French football; PSG.
Maiga seemed a strange quest but he at least was public in his desire to come to NUFC and it all fell apart as the final days of the window arrived.

Should we have signed Crouch? That's route one football we'd return to as we bounce balls of his bonce for a second striker to pick up. The rest of the squad seems to have been built to play football on the ground and attack.

Should we have signed Long? He's a good player and perhaps we should have thrown out fay into the ring.

The attempted 'hijack' of Ruiz was a desperate last throw of the dice and it failed.

Perhaps they didn't really try. Perhaps they did.

I'm still sated with who we did buy though and they will begin to gel as the pre-season spilt the squad in two.

Tash - for once I agree with every word you have said. Excellent post, and let's thank the Lord for the mercy that is not bestowing upon us Carlton Cole.

Don't understand this, yes he's right footed but he plays at left back. "The next Paolo Maldini" isn't a left back? Unless all these people claiming Santon isn't a left back know better than Jose Mourinho, Marcello Lippi & Marco Giampaolo who have all played him at left back? If so I bow down to the Football Manager based knowledge ahead of those three, let's face what would those three know about football anyway?

totally agree with everything here. no point spending money just for the sake of it. we were knocked back by all our targets in one way or another. not the club's fault that the player does not want to join or the club doesnt want to sell.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Needless to say I think you're as mad as a *****ose! We'll take the top 6 as Man U/Man C/Arsenal/Chelsea/Liverpool/Spurs. Just looking elsewhere (and its only my opinion so don't get excited anyone) Stoke - Jones/Crouch both better than our two. Bolton Tuncay/Klasnic/Davies all better than our two Wolves - Doyle better Everton - Saha better Aston Villa - Bent/Agbonlahor/Heskey all better Fulham - Johnson/Dembele/Ruiz/Zamora all better Sunderland - Bendtner/Gyan both better Wigan - Di Santo/Rodellega better West Brom - Odemwingie/Long better Norwich - Holt/Vaughan better

I'm struggling to see it myself and think you may be overestimating Best and Ba's abilities.

  19. I'd rather have Best and Ba than Jones and Crouch mate. Jones scored 9 last season and Crouch could only score 4 goals despite the excellent service.

Holt and Vaughan better? Odemwinge and Long? Di Santo and Rodellega? I assume you must be blind or mad to think these are better than Best and Ba mate.

Why are you talking about some clubs and only mentioned one striker? I'm not talking about single strikers i'm talking about a pair of strikers.

Saha is good but can't stay off the ****ing injury table, and i'd rather have two good strikers than 1 great one that gets injured all the time.

    Doyle? Are you smoking ****?

I said most other clubs below the top 6, not ALL of them.

Are you sure you're not Mr Tiote in disguise?

i am pleased with the players we did bring in but there was no excuse to not bring in another striker at all we've known for months but we were to busy dicking around there was little chance of us getting ruiz and they knew that but that situation should never have happened. however i'm glad we didnt panic and get cole or somebody equally crap.
