Okay it was a bad result, a bad performance but it's not the first and it wont be the last. On the bright side- It's another top team ticked off the list. We only have Newcastle, Chelsea and Arsenal left to play (Teams which we have a 100% record against so far this season). I'm more disappointed with the performance more than anything. Our build-up play was slow, Suarez was isolated and we gave Scholes and Carrick far to much time on the ball, and it's hard to take any positives from the game at all. Thankfully the story so far this season has been a disappointing result followed by a response, which for now is all you can ask for following that. We lost 4-0 to Tottenham, then went on a long unbeaten run. We lost 3-1 to Bolton, then knocked both Manchester clubs out of the CC and the F.A. Cup. As a club we need to stay positive and trust the players that start every match, There's still 42 points to play for this season with the teams around us being just as inconsistent as we are we're not out of the running yet Yes, it is very frustrating at the moment and it's understandable considering the tension losing these high profiled matches, but we have Suarez back, Carroll has improved and Kuyt has got a couple of goals. Not to mention we play the second half of the season with a fully fit Gerrard Stay positive fellow reds
The system implemented just doesn't work. If you go out and play a 433, your midfielder's need to back up your striker, especially when you have such inept wingers. Our midfield was just abysmal in doing this today. Spearing just seemed like a deer in the headlights most of the game. He was assigned a specific role and just couldn't cut it. All he had to do today was make some of simplest passes and he couldn't do it. Lets be honest, he is an average player, and the only reason he is still around is because he is a local lad that shows a bit of passion now and again. Other than that, he is a purely limited player. Gerrard, again, for me just seems past it. He should have been at the front of the midfield constantly attacking and supporting Suárez. He kept coming deep far to often, he just doesn't seem the same player any more. Downing needs to **** off. Plain and simple. I still see bullshit build up play with ball being passed around the back and midfield a few times and then launched to nothing. I know you will all jump down my throat now, but we just aren't good enough at the moment, the majority of the players and the manager. Just not good enough.
I agree with some of your post and not with other parts, Downing is terrible at the moment but the team in general are playing well and we have a good squad that we can build on. Kenny and the management have done well this season so far except with the odd game.
I think we are just far to inconsistent. One week we'll turn up and play an attacking that could match Barcelona's (Over exaggeration, but you know what I mean), and then the next week we'll deploy an awful defensive tactic for no reason what so ever.
Fortunately, with us having CFC, AFC and NUFC still to play, it's in our hands. Those first two are at home, which should favour us. Also, I believe AFC play CFC at the Emirates, which should also help us, with CFC being the higher placed team.
