We beat Wigan by a single goal and took all three points - that's all that really matters at the end of the day. Nevertheless they stuck the ball in the net twice as opposed to our once, both being adjudged offside and that's also fair enough. The question still remains as to whether we knew what we were doing at the back at the time, or were well beaten defensively and escaped punishment. I've looked at the goals again and I just wonder. Let's face it, Wigan were generally crap and nothing like what we'll face against Wolves. Let's hope it was a well marshalled defence that saw those two Wigan goals disallowed rather than lapses that could have cost us otherwise. I'd like to think we've turned the corner with that way win, but I've got serious reservations that a marginally better side than them on the night could have seen it end differently. Half empty again I hear you cry.................Maybe so, but tomorrow could change that feeling I just can't get rid of.
Cheerup it could be Monday and raining, tomorrow ccfc will come of age with a 2-0 victory, and Wales stuffing the French as two of my French friends have been invited to my house thinking their going to win, so cheer up and have one on me.
Thank you William. Is that "one on you" half full or half empty?....... Don't need cheering up pal, just refuse to be carried away by thinking that beating Wigan 1-0 with just 40% of the possession and them sticking the ball in the net twice only for them to be disallowed means we're going to storm the league. Wigan are a poor outfit with or without Malky - Wolves under Jackett will be a totally different proposition. If we win that well, I will cheer up good and proper.
Hey Sparkey, got a night off your 'social duties'? Posting late aren't we? the possession thing is the one that worries me. From the games I've listened to, we don't seem to have been caught offside that often, haven't won that many corners and certainly haven't had many disallowed goals. The feeling is that we aren't getting forward that much, certainly not getting into the danger areas. ALF, Macheda and others would have had a few more goals if we had. We've changed the strikers but still haven't changed the fortunes. Not enough chances, not lack of quality. I know ALF missed some sitters, but scoring is a confidence thing and if chances are few and far between, you start trying too hard rather than doing what comes natural.
It's very much a sold short season so I know exactly where you're coming from Sparks. I go to every home game I can but with little expectation or enthusiasm compared to 2, 3, 4 or 5 seasons ago. The football is uninspiring and so often the visitors have a more attractive game plan and style. The possession stats tell a salutory tale. I have only been to 3 away but get more of a thrill from that, boys day out, a few beers, and into the unknown and a curry on the way home. Actually enjoyed the Bournemouth trip although my passengers weren't impressed with my driving on the bloody awful road between Blandford and Shaftesbury. Sicky bags all round. Looking forward to Brentford despite the prospect of a stuffing unless someone takes out Pritchard early on. Used to go to home games believing we were invincible and totally deflated if we didn't win. Now go not expecting to win so if we don't then it's just another day. Ah well gone totally off topic. We don't get many goals disallowed. We don't get in the box often enough to have attempts on goal resulting in having them disallowed. Where's that Samaritan's helpline number when I need it?
So true ccfc. And then Whitts would bloody miss. Mind you Doyle has a good record with pens so who would get the shot given the chance?
Remote - I'm not normally let out after dark, but as the days have drawn out now I was allowed a peep at the forum later than usual last night. My OP question remains unanswered though - was our defence well marshalled to play those two Wigan strikers offside to get their goals disallowed, or were they actually well beaten in the box and just got lucky?
I can confirm I felt physically sick in the back of BfB's car on the way to Bournemouth. Excellent curry after
Mart - it was on the way back you felt sick, after the curry and a couple of beers. Perhaps you were so delirious that you couldn't remember. You or Phil can drive to Brentford. Curry at Ealing afterwards?
