Having just read their club statement this is by far the funniest line ever to come out of a football club It was clear in this plan, which was briefed to supporters, players, sponsors and all our stakeholders last summer that promotion this season was not the primary target. The priorities were building on the Derby way and style of football enjoyed in the past two seasons; adding depth and strength to our playing squad; and, developing and improving player and team performance. “Sadly, on these measurements, we have not made enough progress and that is why we have decided to part company with Paul. Do i sense abit of the greeneyed monster at Derby?
@johnbennettbbc If promotion is not the "primary target" for a big club in the Championship, what is? Nicest pies? Best programme? Snazziest dug out seats?
Reading that quote I really doubt it as the owners are are bunch of ****wits. Also when he get a job, Shakespeare is really likely to follow as they are best mates and we don't want that at this time...
Shakey could be coaching a Champions League team next year, i doubt he'd be offered anything like the wages he'll be getting here at the moment. Would really test how good their relationship is after what happened last summer.
He followed Carlo Ancelotti around so he had no choice but to leave Madrid because Ancelotti got sacked
Ancelotti linked with Bayern, Derby may not be wanting to lose another manager like last season as Clement was rumoured to be interested in linking up again. Not an ITK but they may have acted now especially as they said he didn't share thier long term vision.
Ancelotti isn't linked - he has the job as when Pep declared he wasn't going to sign a new contract, they moved really quickly to find a replacement. Can see Clement following him there if he doesn't find a new club straight away.
In all seriousness, Derby dont want immediate promotion but to build. That does sound ideal for Nigel Pearson.
Particulaly when you think of their league position, geographical location, budget AND he was on the fletch and sav sofa the other week...
... You don't leave a great job because your best mate works somewhere else ... especially when your best mate's employers can't match your package or provide the same job satisfaction.. let's keep it real people...
I agree ... I guess we will find out once Perason eventually gets a job and tries to take walshy and shaky with him
For Walsh - yes as not even Arsenal could pry him away. With Shakespeare I am not sure - we must be the only club with 3 assistant managers...
