I have a diesel car - how near is the "ban" zone from Ashton Gate

I go past the airport - round the new link road - and come from the direction of Long Ashton - then get onto Winterstoke Road - will that be ok?

A blanket ban on diesel cars is absolutely stupid, but then, so is Bristol City Council......

should be I think it is only immediate city centre … all police cars are diesel and so are paramedics ambulance it means virtually no cars in Bristol centre.
when you think a lot of the monitoring stations seemed to disappear when the 20mph came in slower speed more revs more pollution! we now havesecond part of plan ban cars ..next part will be if you want to come into city centre then pay! …. there are a large number of multi story CP's and umpteen parking meters that will be a bit short on income?
how is one expected to get to the hospitals/clinics for appointments there is not enough park and rides ..buses are crap ..taxi's expensive THIS MAYOR IS WORST THAN THE LAST [ bit FoR ROD ..LOL ]

Diesel vehicles .. The new vehicles have EGR, DPF and SCR fittings. This makes them equal to and more friendly to the environment than petrol using vehicles. The government offered cash incentives for people to buy these vehicles. People owning these vehicles will be penalised financially and it could have an impact on their quality of life.

Its an arrogant and ignorant act by a Council that is not keeping in line with norms across the Country. My lifestyle means I have a neglible carbon footprint, I do not expect everybody else to live as I do.

Make's no sense......My Mrs has bought a fairly new diesel car with Euro 6 engine, which is much much cleaner than my 3.4 petrol engine..So I can travel in and out the city but she can't............how does that work right?!! I believe it's a money making exercise and has nothing to do with pollution..

    I will buy diesels every time,more economy,more reliable,more miles a no brainer.

This council is fooked.Wait till it hits the restaurants, the shopping complex etc.

The mall will be rubbing their hands together.

    Short sighted and blinkered.

Ahh, I was forgetting that R&W. Wait a minute though - you guys could be in the ****e there pal.................

"Farmers must be warned, that tractors used on the public road for non-agricultural purposes, automatically lose their "agricultural tractor" status, and will therefore fall foul of taxation class, red diesel usage and weight restrictions."

Special rules for Council ones. Quite a few stored in Brislington depot (you knew that) …The Mayor should use them to travel on.

Well that's alright then - as long as they're taxed for public road usage and run on white diesel, your Mayor will have no problem.

As someone who knows absolutely nothing about any of this - is it still generally accepted that diesel cars are 'friendlier' for the environment? Why the sudden u-turn, is it commonly disputed?

Best thing the Council could do is make a public transport system that actually works - people will always choose convenience, but for me getting into town would take over double the time driving if using the bus.

I’m no expert either, but as I understand, Diesel engines burn less fuel and the engines last longer compared to petrol engines, BUT the gas that they produce - whilst less in quantity than the petrol engines - is much more toxic.

I know you're bantering but I'm not exactly a fan of the Guardian either.

If you look up Euro 6 engines and the use of Adblue, it tells you how much diesel has improved for emissions..These are the newer engines that were encouraged by the government to implement......that's why it's a farce to create a blanket ban........many petrol engines will put out more emissions.. But of course Bristol City Council are more interested in collecting tariffs than improving our dire public transport, which has been an utter disaster..

There's about as much chance of this coming to pass as the Banwell By-Pass... Oh, wait a minute!!

But they're supposed to be charging buses £100 a day to enter the dead zone - seems a REALLY sensible idea to me!! Also, will that charge include the Metrobus system the council spent millions on and ****ed up anyway?
