Apologies to the Mods , but this is worthy of a new thread. West Ham Tweeting that they have signed Diego Poyet on a 4 year deal. Somehow it hurts even more when a player we have nurtured for 8 years, leaves us for nothing, and joins a near London rival. Thanks for nothing Diego. Can POTY votes be rescinded?
A fee which is capped at a desultory £400k No problem with the lad showing ambition but why rub our noses in it ? - I voted for him as POTY 4 times West Ham are a poxy club who play horrible long ball football (which won't suit him) and spend every season struggling to avoid the drop. P.S: On the subject of Talksport, have you seen the state of Alan Brazil these days
1.We get a fee, yes hardly what we want money wise but we get some... better than if he's gone abroad. 2. West Ham, its a prem club, and a lower one he'll probs get games... I'd much rather he had done that than gone to Leeds or something like that. 3. Could be worse, could have gone to a championship club and faced us this year. 4. Could be worse, Could have gone to Palace Still gutted he didn't stay, but meh, he moved on, support the club, not a man, will follow his career but will hold no real ill will toward him, not like Parker, Defoe or Jenkinson Oh and West Ham being a rival... don't really see it to be honest, more a rival wiht palace, millwall and Sheffield Wednesday to me (hate Wednesday) West Ham probs care about is as much as Man United care about Brentford
It hurts, but I still think the club dropped the ball. My day off has been ruined by the amount of spanners texting or facebooking gloating/asking what he's like. Though they think he will be able to get some first team football, playing in the middle with Noble apparently.
He is obviously getting £30-40,000 a week at West Ham plus a signing on fee. That will sweeten the pill of missing out on Champions League football. Can you put a sell on clause in contracts in these circumstances ?
I don't think so mate, it's only with a tribunal like the Defoe or Jenkinson situation I believe... lets hope though you can
Do we hold ill-will towards Jenkinson? We got one million for him which enabled Powell to buy a team which went on to promotion with the most points of any team in Europe that season. Most of us thought it was fair money, as Solly was a better prospect and Jenkinson wouldn't have got a look in. A real shock when he got an England cap, but I think he will soon find his level at lower Premiership/ upper Championship. In all the talk about who will replace Bacary Sagna, I have not seen his name even mentioned. I think he has no future at Arsenal.
I just don't really like Jenkinson, he seems to lack effort once it looked like Arsenal came into him.... yes Solly is far better but I just didn't like Jenkinson's attitude once Arsenal showed up, it stank. Poyet on the otherhand, despite all the interest mounting, still gave his all everyone of those 23 games. It's why I like Church over Sordell, Church is never going to score, but he'd ,ale am effort every game, whereas Sordell was a waste of space.
Poyet will be wearing the claret and blue now. I argued his case long enough, but he wants to play for Wet Spam, totally his decision, not particularly interested about what he has to say about it now. Jordan Cousins is the man now, let's hope Gomez signs up.
I don't particularly consider West Ham our rivals. From a footballing point of view, given how Allardyce plays football, it's a slightly odd move on Diego's part, but he has far more chance of playing first-team games at Upton Park than he would at, say, Chelsea. Good luck to him.
I was having a chat with my friend who's a West Ham fan and seemed to think we'd get compensation plus sone add ons for Poyet. They lost a player to Bolton in similar circumstances: The Professional Football Compensation Committee later awarded West Ham a compensation package with Bolton Wanderers for the transfer of Rob Hall. The independent tribunal has ruled that Bolton Wanderers must pay West Ham United an initial sum of £450,000 with the following further additions: £250,000 if Bolton are promoted to the Premier League in the next three seasons, £2,500 per appearance for the first 100 appearances (for Bolton) in the Championship or £10,000 per appearance for the first 100 appearances (for Bolton) if in the Premier League, 20% of any profit made by Bolton Wanderers in selling the player to another club at any point in the future. Anyone know if this is the case...?
Shades of Jermaine Defoe as far as joining West Ham goes. It's nice to know that the so called "Academy of Football" relies so much on Charlton's academy to bolster it's squad with our half-decent youngsters. They're obviously not producing any of their own. Oh well, Poyet may make a few bob from a bigger contract, and may even enjoy watching Premiership football from the Upton Park bench. But going from the way that West Ham play under Sam Allardyce, any pitch time Poyet gets will probably be spent wandering pointlessly around the centre circle, watching the ball sailing over his head on its aerial journey from one penalty area to the other and back again.
