Sad old git that i am, i've decided to re-start my Twitter account, and thanks to Jamiester have been able to follow most of Addick tweeters. In doing so, found out that Diego Poyet is in hospital with a burst appendix !
Best wishes for a speedy recovery to him - it was mentioned that he was slightly off his usual high standard in the game at Old Trafford - I suspect that brewing this up would flatten anyone...
I've known 2 cases personally of boys with appendicitis who have been sent home by Lewisham hospital who misdiagnosed this serious condition as being indigestion. I wonder if this happened to Diego.
Ye gods, that's bad - if you add in shock and peritonitis, this can be a fatal condition. Wasn't Houdini killed by a burst appendix?
Houdini died as a result of internal injuries. He had incredibly strong stomach muscles, and one of his tricks was to let people punch him in the stomach as hard as they could. This was safe enough as long as he was prepared and was able to clench his muscles, but one student thought he'd test him out while he was catching 40 winks on a settee. After this blow Houdini tried to carry on but died 5 days later as a result.
