Following British reports over the past week about Newcastle United having an interest in Diego Capel, Portuguese newspaper O Jogo has got to the point. They explain on Sunday that Capel's current club would be willing to 'negotiate immediately' with Newcastle United and then let Capel make the move to the Premier League club.

O Jogo explain that Capel's time with Sporting Lisbon is getting to the point where it's 'extinguished' and that's been a situation approaching for quite some time. Sporting Lisbon are willing to sanction a transfer and get Capel's wages off their bill. They're happy to do a deal 'at short notice' and judging by the reporting of the whole thing - they'll probably gift-wrap Capel too.

Indeed, anything goes according to O Jogo. Whether Newcastle United want a full transfer right now, a loan with a right to a full transfer or even a no-strings-attached loan - it's on the table as Sporting Lisbon sound like they're ready to put Capel on eBay if all else fails.

We've covered the Capel situation many times, he just hasn't lived up to be the player Sporting Lisbon hoped he'd be. For a long time Capel threatened to be better than he actually is. That may sound a harsh way to speak about a footballer, but Capel played for Spain right the way through the youth ranks, more than most of the current full squad, and around six years ago, at the age of 20, he made an impressive debut for the Spanish first team.

As he impressed more with Sevilla there were reports of interest from Premier League clubs and even Real Madrid but Capel couldn't produce his best football consistently and eventually lost his place. When Capel moved to Sporting in 2011 the Portuguese club didn't have to put up much of a fight to secure him. However, at 23 years old, he still had the chance to fulfil his potential and Sporting agreed to pay him €900,000 per year after tax, which by their standards is absolutely huge.

Capel is now 26 years old, he has a contract with the Portuguese club until June 2016. He can play on either wing or through the middle. If Newcastle United want him, he can very easily be theirs - but the big question is IF they want him.
