Hey, Ok so I thought I would pop over to 606. I check it out now and again. Anyways there is an article on there asking why Barton, Nolan Simpson etc arenââ¬â¢t being called up for England. http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A83091774 A guy called soton_wolf -5 replies first saying: "What kind of message would it send to all the England youth players, in fact everyone? Stub cigarettes in your peer's eyes, be in and out of prison more times than Charlie Croker but don't worry, you'll still be able to represent your country." I posted basically saying other players have been involved in incidents also: "Steven Gerrard assaults DJ, remains in the England squad. Terry, has affair with teammates girlfriend. Just been given captaincy for England squad! Ashley Cole, cheats on Cheryl Cole and shoots an intern at Chelsea with air rifle. Still in the England squad. None of them are exactly role models, however they are seen as "big" players for England. I don't support Joey's actions but he has been in form recently, everyone has baggage!" Now I realise that posting anything bad about specific players normally gets you banned but come on, the first guy replying just brought up Joeys incident so why canââ¬â¢t I bring up other players past? Rant over.
I always say this, if Joey was at Man United and in this form, he'd be in every squad without fail and another of the untouchable golden boys.
you havent posted anything bad about any players the truth is they all did what you have mentioned and thats a FACT. and the information is in the public domain anyway. When is 606 actually being ended?
Tony Adams- went to jail for drink driving and ended up being an alcholic- Went on to be England captain. Paul Merson- Addicted to gambling and alcholic- Still played plenty of games for England. Paul Gascogine- Alcholic and beat his wife, still got picked for England for another 2 and half years after the incident with his wife. Jonathan Woodgate- Allowed to play for England after court case which found him guilty of affray. Lee Bowyer- Allowed to play for england afer being cleared in Woodgate court case and previous convictions for affray. Also alright he didn't play for England, Chris Kamara did time and everyone loves him now.
Wiki'd it and I don't think he did but.. "Kamara was the first English player to be convicted of assault, after breaking Shrewsbury Town player Jim Melrose's cheekbone with a punch straight after the final whistle in 1988"
Didn't know it was for assault, but did hear it somewhere a few months ago, and was shocked, would never have thought of him as someone who would go to prison.
