    http://www.themag.co.uk/the-mag-wire/pardew-highlights-the-biggest-miss/?

Everybody will have their own ideas about what went wrong against the Hammers but Alan Pardew has highlighted one thing that was massively missing on Sunday.

    That ‘thing’ being Cheick Tiote!

    This is what the manager had to say to the Chronicle;

“Cheick will be back for Swansea and he’s important to us.

We missed him against West Ham and we miss him these physical games.

His (West Ham’s Diame) power was there to see. He kept running with the ball and keeping it for periods in the game, He wouldn’t have been able to do that against Cheick for sure”.

Nearly every significant win Newcastle have had in the last couple of seasons has seen the Ivory Coast midfielder at the heart of the action.

Last season after the magnificent win at home to Manchester United, SKY put together an excellent compilation of Tiote’s contribution and he was keeping possession as the likes of Carrick, Gigs, Rooney, Evra and the rest were bouncing off him. As Alan Pardew states, it was almost a similar case yesterday with Diame for the visitors.

Cheick Tiote is a brilliant player and anybody who thinks Newcastle cashing in on him would somehow be of benefit to the cause of Newcastle United is a fool.

We just need to increase the quality of the squad overall so that Cheick doesn’t feel the need to charge around the pitch covering for the deficiencies of others.

There is no doubt we missed him and Colo, but the reality is that we can't play our best 11 every game and others need to step up.

Having players missing isn't really an excuse at the top level in the modern 'squad' era.

We did miss him and always do but given his passing this season I'm not convinced he'd have made the difference. Unfortunately the ones you look to for a bit of guile (Cabaye and Benni), had really bad days at the office.

Say what you want about him, we're a better side with him, that without him.

Exactly. I've said this before but the fact that we're missing players doesn't excuse the fact that the team we did put out played like amateurs.
We didn't lose yesterday because we didn't have Tiote and Colo, we lost because we played like utter ****.

Tiote controls the midfield just as Colo controls the defence, having both of them out at the same time is bound to have an effect on our game. That plus Jonas getting injured early on didn't help our cause.

    We missed Tiote
    We missed Colo
We are on the back of a European game, and don't seem to perform well after them.
We have not found the right system yet for both Ba and Cisse, no chemistry
More time playing in Europe, equals less time for Premiership prep, Inc set pieces
Lack of strengthening in the summer window is starting to tell
My take on things for what it's worth.

No, he's been rubbish this season, plus we haven't won with him in the side in the league since the first day of the season.

Yes but we all know he can be a liability. I hope he has learned his lesson. I love a great tackle but I'm fed up of him getting carded.

If we 'need' Tiote to win against teams such as west ham then were in trouble! Yes they are fairly physical but we should be good enough to deal with a promoted team without him, that said I do think he could have made a difference, even perch might have!

We missed him big style yesterday. Diamme was pissing all over us. Wouldn't of had his own way had tiote been playing.

Even Perch? Perch has been playing very well for us so far this season and is a massive improvement on what he was like previously. Of course Tiote is the man, and we're so used to him running things that when he's out we sometimes don't seem to know what to do. Having Colo out at the same time doesn't help either.

I didnt mean even perch in a bad way! I'm saying Perch might have give us a presence kind of tiote like that anita cant, Anita was getting pushed around yesterday, I dont think they could have pushed Perch around without getting anything back! We could really do with him against swansea as he's quite quick aswell, you know how long he's out for? Having colo out for swansea will be a massive miss! If perch was back i'd play him CB next week

Sorry, picked you up the wrong way. Agree about Perch playing as a CB, he seems to have covered the middle quite a bit recently.
