I actually bought the HDM today, on the same page as this article was a small piece on Simpson. He only scored 6 in 32 appearances as this article states Mclean scored 3 in 27 did we get rid of the wrong one? I believe Waghorn will be better than both of them, if Waggy succeeds then a skint club has wasted 1.3 million on a misfiring striker. Maybe Mclean should have gone on loan, looked good, bagged a few and then we could re coup our losses? http://www.thisishullandeastriding....8211-Pearson/story-13296073-detail/story.html
I know I've always backed Simmo massively on here but I'm not completely blind, I reckon Waggy is much better. But yeah, I would say that McLean would have been better off leaving than Simmo. I suppose it makes more sense to loan out the young player for game time as opposed to the 28-year-old. I'm not convinced Adebola adds anything to the team..I know he's supposed to add a 'different dimension' but we seem to be going for a reasonably pacy team so if anything I'd rather see our 2012-13 strikers be Simmo, Fryatt, McLean and Waggy. That is of course if we don't find an extra option, and if we do I'd let McLean go ahead of Simmo.
Rumour has it Simmo/his family was homesick for the bright lights of London so that could be the reason he was sent out on loan
IMO McClean has more to offer in his locker than Simmo. McClean is far more creative than Simmo. McClean seems to work much harder off the ball too plus his scoring record overall is far superior to Jay 'Bow Legged' Simpson. Think for once NP has made the right choice.
Not only this, but Simmo has come on on many occasions in the dying seconds, which counts the same as the full 90 minutes when you look at appearance stats. Also, Simmo was playing up front with Cullen or by himself for half of last season when we were getting no points on the board, so you can hardly say he was missing chances, obviously he had one or two but it wasn't until Stewart came in that he had any real clear-cut ones.. And after 4 goals in 2 games he was dropped..
Mclean has had a bright start to the season and hopefully we'll start to see an end product. Something wasn't quite right with Homer, be it homesickness, being dropped like he was at the turn of the year or a bit of both. I'd love to see him back here but think a return to London will keep him down there permanently if homesickness was an issue. We appear to have a good replacement in Waghorn, as things stand the jury is still out on Mclean, he's had a couple of horror misses but i don't think he's helped sometimes with his lack of height allowing defenders to climb all over him like in the Reading game. Without scoring much he did do the donkey work at times for Fryatt to score so there is that side to his game.
In my opinion I think Simpson has been treated disgracefully. Yes he only scored 6 in 32 but out of 32 appearences, how many did he actually start? A striker will never become consistant if he dosnt get a decent run of games and I reckon he will rub it in our face and bag 20 at Millwall. I fear that now we have Waghorn that Mclean can now expect the same treatment. I know he isnt exactly prolific but his workrate cannot be doubted, and if he is causing their defence problems then it gives Fryatt some space and freedom to score. Only an opinion before I get jumped on
Simpson didnt settle, that's all there is too it. The right striker is out. He probably will do well in London.
Given that you apparently can't change it back to a previous name, I've no idea what to go with next. I'll probably keep it, or change it to something Paul McShane related.
Anything related to McShane should be kept under your hat ,one headless chicken is enough for any team.
