According to the stopmes in this country, Churchill won the war.

According to what actually happened, the yanks + commies won the war, we just fluffed it up for them.

As the last article, was rudely removed before I could give my reply to those asking what Churchill achieved!

You are incredibly uneducated, if any of you have to ask what Churchill achieved! He fought in the First World War as a commander, he then led the country to victory in the 2nd world war. He was a smart bloke aswell, won a nobel prize for literature, the only prime minister to ever win a nobel prize. He was also the first person ever to be named an honorary citizen of America!

One of the greatest Britain's of all time, without doubt

He didn't like brown people, or the Irish though.

He was in power during an era when being racist or having racist opinions was the norm. It wasn't just Churchill it was the whole country. We have moved on from those days now, though we can't hold it against people from back then as it was a part of society.

Other country's however haven't, a friend of mine told me how he went to the Taj Mahal in India, and the white people had to pay 10 times what the natives had to pay to get in, and this was only last year. Could you imagine the media outcry if anything like that went on over here

Because the defeat of thousands and thousands of soldiers in one battle, was all Churchill's fault:biggrin:

Sounds a bit like a football manager. When it's going well it's down to the manager. When it's going badly it's the players' fault.

Largely, yes. It was his idea after all.

Given that it was his idea, he played a major part in the planning and he resigned as First Lord of Admiralty with his tail between his legs when it failed, that's a reasonable assumption.

For some reason the Allied troops did not advance after taking the Turks by surprise and this gave them time to prepare defensive positions

We did our bit! If we'd have lost the Battle of Britain then Germany would have been able to throw all of their force at the Russians, which could have tipped the balance over there! Our survival also meant there was a launch pad for D-Day! Our contribution to the African campaign also meant we could invade Italy! We were jammy though, I must admit!
