Sounds like a cracking game.... Sunderland Res 3 Liverpool Res 3 Stuart Vose at the Academy of Light Liverpool came from two goals down to claim a point from an entertaining encounter at the Academy of Light. Both teams played hardand the game was peppered with crunching challenges as two young sides went toe-to-toe. The visitors opened the scoring midway through the first half through John Flanagan, who played against the first team on the opening day of the season. But Sunderland roared back as Adam Reed and Craig Lynch netted before Liverpool's Andre Wisdom put through his own net during a crazy six-minute spell. The hosts were excellent in the first period but the boot was on the other foot after the break as the Reds produced a comeback of their own to claim the spoils. It was first versus third in the Barclays Premier Reserve League North as Keith Bertschin's side faced a Liverpool outfit seven points behind them with a game in hand. Rodolfo Borrell's side drew first blood, opening the scoring on 25 minutes after Oumare Tounkara and Krisztian Adorjan came close at either end. Jesus Fernandez Saenz's run down the left caused concern, and when his low shot from distance came back off the post, Flanagan reacted first to smash the ball first-time past Lewis King. Sunderland were level just two minutes later; Reed sending the goalkeeper the wrong way from the penalty spot after Jack Robinson floored Lynch in the box. Nathan Eccleston almost restored Liverpool's lead from close range, but instead it was the visitors who surged in front thanks to a goal of the highest quality. Lynch gained possession 25 yards from goal and launched a fine shot into the roof of the net, leaving keeper Tyrell Belford helpless. A fine first half was capped 10 minutes before the break when Roarie Deacon's free-kick was deflected in by Wisdom at the front post . Evidently stung, Liverpool came out all guns blazing at the start of the second half, pulling a goal back thanks to Conor Coady's close-range header from Adorjan's corner. Sunderland keeper King made two fine saves as the visitors pressed, bravely diving to block Adorjan's drive before tipping away an Eccleston free-kick. But he was beaten 18 minutes from time as Adorjan played a short corner and looped over a delivery which caught the wind and sailed over the pack of players into the far corner. Eccleston shot wide from a decent position in a frenetic finish which also saw Fernandez Saenz strike the crossbar with a fine shot as Sunderland held out for a point .
