....how much more freedom Rickie had to drop deeper and link the play against Villa. This is why we were much more effectual in attack on Saturday and the linking up and movement between Adam, Punch, Gaston and Rickie in the second half put me in mind of how we were playing at the start of last season.

Yep. Played quite rigidly in the 1st half. 2nd half Rickie was everywhere, even won a running race down the left flank! Towards the end of the game Rickie, Lallana, Ramirez and Mayuka were totally interchangeable and Villa just couldn't cope. Very pleased to see how quickly an understanding is forming between the new recruits and our established attack. Ramirez's instinctive flick ons are the kind of thing Lambert goes to sleep dreaming of.

hoping Mayuka plays tomorrow, the four of Mayuka, Lambert,Lallana and Gaston have everything, speed ,skill, brains and brawn.

The good part is if the opponent tries to nullify Lambert it creates space for Ramirez and visa versa. It also gives the others more space. I think Everton will really struggle to deal with our attack despite the form they are in.

Everton constantly got ripped a new one by Swansea, with half decent finishing and without the heroics of Howard, Swansea should have scored at least 2. If we can deal with Fellaini, we should do well

At times in the second half against Villa it was like we were playing with 4 up front with the fullbacks often joining too, there always seemed to be options for the passer with the fluidity of our attacks. I expect us to be more rigid against Everton but the signs are encouraging for our home games even at this early stage.

That's exactly it, before Ramirez we seemed to lack a plan B. On Saturday Lambert had loads of time on the ball at times because they were worried about Ramirez and vice versa. Mind you it doesn't seem like Ramirez needs much time on the ball, most of his best moments were one touch, and at an awkward height!

When I saw the title I thought it was goign to say:

Did anyone else notice the SkySports live coverage of Liverpool / Man U when the teams were in the tunnel - how often in 1 minute the Utd keeper spat on the floor!!!

What a disgusting animal <laugh> and was completely unecessary - he hadnt even started playing...

I love Saints fans optimism and red tinted glasses. You are correct about his movement, hoever he lost that race down the left flank... we did get a throw on though :p
