Dick Advocaat is focused squarely on results as he prepares for Sunderland’s final nine games of the campaign. The Dutchman will take his new side to West Ham on Saturday having been confirmed as the club’s new head coach earlier this week. The atmosphere is very positive but in football it is all about results - Dick Advocaat Advocaat has signed a contract until the end of the season and has wasted no time in making his mark at the Academy of Light. “So far everything is going the right way and it’s been a short week,” he told safc.com. “It started with the call from Lee [Congerton] on Monday, a late afternoon flight to have discussions and we stayed after that. “We have already had a lot of talking with the players, and the training sessions. “The atmosphere is very positive but in football it is all about results. “The most positive thing is that the players look bright, but if you don’t get results then that is not so important.” Advocaat’s immediate priority is driving the club up the Barclays Premier League table and the 67-year-old is approaching the task with a positive attitude. “We have nine games to go and are still a point ahead, so we have everything in our own hands. We have a difficult programme, as do the other teams, but it’s all up to us and I have a good feeling about it.” The new head coach led a team meeting on Thursday and will now finalise preparations for Saturday’s clash with the Hammers in the capital. And the Dutchman’s message has been clear during his first few days. “You can’t throw everything in, but I have talked with some individuals and the team together. We had a team meeting today. “Keeping this team in the league is the most important thing. “As I said to the players, it’s quite simple. This is a big, big club – do you want to play in the other league? “With this club, this stadium, you cannot play in the lower league. I think they realise how important it is.”
I like his attitude and he has the credentials. Whether even he can make something from this pigs ear we call a squad is a different matter altogether.
