I've managed to find the winner of this race just twice in the last 26 years, any help gratefully received !!!
I refer you to my previous post! In all seriousness it's a tricky one to work out given you have little idea who will line-up, and little idea who will ride (being an amateur's race). I am a big fan of Harry The Viking but he isn't the most straightforward so would like to see a decent jockey booking before getting involved, if at all. I am sure that Nicholls will have a half decent pilot at his disposal, and the same should apply to the Henderson beast too. I backed Chicago Grey last year who looked the obvious choice on form, with the best jock in the plate, and allowed to start at a generous 5/1 (or thereabouts).
Sorry to upset the Royalists and the ‘Queen and country’ brigade but not only do we have the Champion Chase lumbered with the appalling ‘Queen Mother’ moniker but now this heat gets tagged with the ludicrous ‘Diamond Jubilee’ title. What are the Festival going to do next play the ‘National Anthem’ before the CGC and ‘Land of Hope and Glory’ as the runners turn into the home straight in the Champion Hurdle?!? Cor blimey, never heard of anything so ridiculous... Obviously it’s not the strongest Festival heat but title apart it is a race I always enjoy for the ‘difference’ aspect it offers. I see those bookie chappies wager: 9/1 Harry The Viking, 12/1 Alfie Spinner, Loose Preformer, Soll, 14/1 Crash, Fists Of Fury, Lambro, Up The Beat, 16/1 Allee Garde, Baile Anrai, Medical Card, Merchant Royal, Oscar Dan Dan, Picture This, Teaforthree Universal Soldier. 18/1 Bar At this very early stage I like Alfie Spinner and Sybarite. Both will relish the extended trip and both have displayed quality at one point or another during there careers to date.
Could hardly call myself a royalist, but why is it so "appalling"? The title is fine by me. What would you prefer, the Chuckles Champion Chase, or maybe, the Connor Callahan Chase? The latter should please you and your thousands of blood brothers who make their way over for the festival? BTW, don't "Cor Blimey" me mate, I am one (regardless of where I reside) and you ain't. You are Irish, and as such are surely welcome on here, but your St. Stephen's Day slip-up some time ago was a dead give away. Anyway, as long as the words Champion Chase, Gold Cup, etc., are there, who the hell cares? As long as it is never ever the "David Cameron Chase"..........
Swanny, personally I think the ‘David Cameron Chase’ is a lovely name for a race given his families commitment to the sport over several decades and the fact that now we have a racing man at ‘number 10’ top personalities, such as Sir Henry, are at last being honoured in the appropriate way. Cor blimey, though ‘calm down’ as people are allowed to critisce the British Royal Family you know. And don’t worry, old boy, gone are the days when you get your head smitten off for doing so. You’re not obliged to curtsy any longer. I simply don’t think that they have any place in either modern life (isn't Britain ‘broken’ enough without having to pay hundreds of millions annually to subsidise them?!?) or in race names at a Sporting Festival. And before anyone says the ‘Queen Mother’ did so much for the sport let me just counterbalance the argument by saying that if I had the ‘pass-key’ to dear old ‘Giddy’ Osborne’s exchequer then I’d do even more!
David Cameron Chase Entries - We are all in it together Distance - Was 3 miles but we are cutting distance to save on grass cutting costs. Now 20yds. Obstacles - Dire economy, some liberal thinking co colleagues Location - Big Society Result - Losing the next election to the Steve Miller Band
Nassau, Steve Miller Band has got a lot more chance of winning the next election than his ‘brother’. Rumour has it incidentally, and I’ll whisper this in a very hushed voice, that ‘New’ Labour will at the next general election be led by a filly! Nothing to worry about though, old boy, as she’s apparently not up to the calibre of the Lady Margaret or even that game old bird and all round good egg, dear old Edwina Currie. Mr Cameron should reign until the end of the decade before passing the baton to old boy Boris. Re the ‘David Cameron Chase’ it would be Grade 1 and the value of the pot would be priceless.
Goodness me...a Tory loving republican!!...you are as rare as a unicorn with scales Sir Barney.. Anyhow...bit of triv. Can anyone name the horse that started as favourite for the 2m Irish Sweeps Handicap Hurdle(as it was named then and the richest h'cap hurdle at the time) and the 4m NH chase at the festival in the same year?...strangely enough he ran in the 4 mile chase first.
No Problems Sir Barney: On reflection, I am amazed at myself for acting like some medieval knight and defending the RF! Better check my pills. You know, if one looks at some race titles at any race track on any day, they are mind-boggling. "The Mr. and Mrs. Harold von der Dinkelhoff's Daughter's Birthday Celebration Mares Only Claiming Stakes". Yes, it's as bad as that sometimes. BTW, when that lady cabinet minister lost her shoe the other day, I was surprised that our Sir Barney did not leap out from thin air and help her back on with it? Nassau: I'm fed-up with all politicians. We've got a quite a melange in Deutschland, I can tell you. As for what's going on between Romney and Gingrich in the States, well, it is just stupifying? Dexter: Don't know where to start with your little puzzle. Will give it a bash, but am surprised Nassau hasn't come back with the answer yet.
