Not wanting to get my hopes up (I'd love to see Alonso here permanently), but does anyone else think we could be setting things up for a straight swap deal with Fiorentina ? Diakte for Alonso ? .............. Usually when a loan arrangement is set up, it sees a club pay a fee for the player and cover his wage. In many cases there's an agreement built in to purchase the player at an agreed cost, as long as things go to plan. Unless it's a youngster or someone a club can't otherwise get rid of, a free loan is rare but that's what Fiorentina claim has happened with Modibo Diakite. The Serie A club's technical head Eduardo Macia has told reporters that despite there being a lot of competition for Diakite, they were able to get him for free "He complements our defence and will be a boost for our coach. Arrives on loan free of charge until June without option. "He fits our needs, has trained in Italy and has had experience in English football. It's not been a easy transfer because he has had many offers in January. Our relationship with Sunderland after the transfer of Marcos Alonso is good." Fiorentina and Sunderland must have a wonderful relationship if Macia is correct and there were 'many offers' and yet the Premier League side still allowed Diakite to leave on loan without a fee for the period, and without any indication from Fiorentina that they'd do a permanent deal. http://sportwitness.ning.com/forum/...tting-a-penny-for-player-who-left-during-wind
Diakite was loved at Lazio so hope Italian football suits him. The better he does the more chance there is of a swap. I imagine we'll probably have to throw a few pennies in too.
Diakite always looked solid to me. Given a bit of time I thought he could become a player for us. Alonso, though, is already looking good, so a straight swap looks okay.
Their will already be a fee in place for alonso, same with Diakite. Hopefully the fee's suit all parties and they'll simply be concluded individually.
that`s not what the article says Bri. Diakite, they were able to get him for free "He complements our defence and will be a boost for our coach. Arrives on loan free of charge until June without option unless I`m reading it wrong.
See you say that and, having seen both, I agree with the sentiment... But... If Alonso wasn't working for them and Diakite wasn't working for us but both work for the other clubs, why would we need to give them money?
I thought a future fee had to be included regardless of the nature of the loan. I know the article claims there isn't but the media are as prone to guess work as we are.
what fgives you that idea? If that were the case we surely would have signed Rose, Welbeck, Evans, etc.
Overseas loan stipulations are different to domestic loans fella. Domestic loan stipulations vary from county to country but overseas loans fall under fifa rules not the domestic league's governing body. Also any player being loaned out overseas can have an unrealistic future fee set if they have no intention of selling. A loop hole used to get round a stupid flawed international rule that's easily exploited and not fit for purpose. That's FIFA for you.
Yeah, every foreign loan has to have an agreed fee. So we have a fee agreed for Celuksta and Alonso Real Betis have one for N'Dayie and Fiorentina have one for Diakite
Ah, wasn't aware . In that case, I assume the "without option" part of the statement in the OP refers to an option to recall rather than an option to buy?
Well this is what's tough to clarifies as it's extremely difficult to find a reputable source to confirm. I thought a future fee had to be included regardless of the loan fee. Where as this article claims no future fee needs to be included if there's no loan fee. I'm sceptical as the proof is really tough to hunt down.
I think it would be a fair swap, for all we didn't see it, Diakite is a very decent player, and I'd personally put he & Marcos values pretty close. We need Marcos more than him, although Fiorentina are very weak at left back, they clearly feel they needed a CB more, so a straight swap really does work. Alonso has been a big part in giving shape and balance to the team, really like the lad.
