    No surprise this...

    QPR boss eyes midfielder swoop

MARK Hughes wants to make Samba Diakite's move to QPR permanent in the summer – even if they're relegated.

The midfielder has been a big hit since joining on loan from Nancy in January, despite being sent-off on his debut against Fulham.

However, the Mali international has cemented a spot in the R's engine room with a string of impressive displays.

Boss Hughes revealed Rangers have already agreed a fee believed to in the region of £3.5million with Nancy to make the deal permanent at the end of the campaign.

And the Welshman has already seen enough of the 23-year-old to convince him to sign the player in the close season.

He told the Chronicle: “Everything's been agreed. There's a figure we have to pay if we want to make it permanent.

“I'm not going to go into details but we hope we'll be able to make it permanent because he's done very well.

“There's a number of factors, but we'd like to think he's enjoyed his time here so we wouldn't have thought there would be any hurdles in his way.

“He's done very well. The start was a little bit difficult for him but he's overcome that and learned from it very quickly. He's been outstanding.”

Diakite should return to the side for Sunday's crunch clash with Stoke after missing last weekend's derby drubbing at Chelsea with a virus.

Guess the virus kicked him at training ground, giving him a minor knock...

We need to try and keep our good, and especially obviously young and talented players like Diakite even if we get relegated, to come straight back up. Hope MH manages to secure his signature!

Getting Diakite full time would be fantastic and I don't see an issue as we are staying up!

Reading between the lines doesn't this kinda say that MH is thinking about next season whether we stay up or not, ie he is staying next year up or down. hmmm

I hope that stay up or go down we sign Diakite as he has improved a lot since his first game and the sending off. We also need to work on a few patterns of play that can make the most of his charges from midfield. He hasn't got a striker's eye for goal so either that part of his game needs to be worked on or at least the other forward players need to be aware of his movement going forward. Having seen him run at defences I think it is an attacking option we could do more to exploit, defenders look petrified when he is on a run and it opens up a lot of room that we could make better use of.

If we drop I think it will be an uphill struggle trying to keep him as he may not be top 6 class but is certainly worth a place in another Prem team.

He stays with us im certain of it. We could pay him premierleague salary if we go down.

Totally misleading headline. He never mentioned relegation.

Judging by our lack of dynamism in midfield last Sunday, having him back for the last two games is the most important thing...

I can see him getting into the England squad for Euro 2012 if he keeps improving.

I hope they are working hard behind the scene to sign him up ASAP. If they manage to offload SWP then they should have plenty of spare dosh to offer him a decent salary. What concerns me is there are not too many players of his type available right now. He is a young, pacey and can easily play box to box for 90 mins. Me thinks that there will be plenty of big clubs sniffing around. I wonder is our option to buy depending on us staying up. If it is, we may be in trouble, if he has no opt out then we might have him snared.

Mali got to the African Cup of Nothing semis didn't they? Wonder if he's got any mates who fancy a stay in West London. If they all have engines like him, must be worth a look.....

Essence is Diakite stays come what may. I'd like to think the same will apply to Taye Taiwo.
