Trouble is you need a bit of yin and yang. We've had one without the other. I agree that if there's a general slack attitude around,butts need kicking to sort it. However,take this too far and you don't create a good atmosphere. It's always a balance with motivation. Di Canio did screw it up although I understand why he thinks he was doing the right thing. Ferguson was a master - don't take any **** from the players who should know who's the boss but put an arm round them as well.
Which is why Brian Clough and Peter Taylor worked so well as a team. Cloughie "they're men not boys" attitude and the listenening ear of Taylor. Looking at Gus and based solely on his media interviews its hard to see him being able to motivate players at the moment
He was too much of a loose cannon! He'd have been a nightmare to manage and an absolute nightmare media-wise. Being a "character" has its limitations.
Most of us understood what he was saying, but he was unwise to do his talking thro' the media, he should have been more savvy and acted like a manager.
Thats a bit contradictory how would you know what he said if he didn't say it through the media, which other way is there?
