This is lifted from a mackem forum and they aint happy with Danny boy what so ever !! he is getting an absolute hammering on their web site with all sorts of abuse going his way.

    http://www.readytogo.net/smb/showthread.php?t=765822

There was something a bit weird with the sale of DG by us, ive heard the rumours and it would explain why we were so willing to move him on sharpish for £5m quid. It almost seems like we have conned Sunderland with this sale if what i heard was correct!

Anyway we all know what rumours are like, take the rumour divide it in half subtract 70% and divide the rest by 8 and your close to the truth..there is no smoke without fire though and that has been true of many things over the years.

Does Danny join the list of ex-swans who moved onto failiure at their new club or is it still early days ??

My apologies to the guys on Planet Swans for pinching this topic but i felt it would be intresting to get 606 ers views on this one as well.

Did Dg do the right thing or did the club basically show him the door? my view is that we couldnt get rid of him quick enough, if his off field problems were only half correct then he is a player heading for trouble.
I liked DG alot, seemed like a tidy boy but i think we did well to offload him when we did on reflection, well played Laudrup !

So I'm a little out of the loop. Exactly what is the under story on DG. I realize that we moved him on for a reason. There was something about him, either in his thinking or behaviour or performance that wasn't consistent with what we could offer him versus Sunderland.

so what are the rumours regarding Danny?...that he likes a drink a bit too much, or is there more to it than that?

There have been quite a few rumours about him and none of them seem to be substanciated so its a very difficult thing to mention on here.

I can tell you about the rumours ive heard from other people and forums but not the most serious stories as i have no idea if its bullshit or not!

There were rumours of his drinking becoming an issue and affecting his training, falling out with Laudrup as a result.many seen him out enjoying a drink havent they?
There have been rumours of his personal life being very complicated and his head being a bit fried by it making him lose focus on his football.
There have been stories of him enjoying his cigerettes a bit too much when partying on the wind street. modern players smoking? yeah it happens, but mainly in off season !!
There is one other more serious rumour which if true would be very naughty..but that aint being mentioned by me on here <ok>

Overall there have been a few wild stories none of which have been proven to be correct or incorrect. As far as im concerned Danny always gave 100% when playing for us and im unsure as to why the club would want to get rid of him at such a crucial part of the season with no replacement coming in.

It smacked of desperation to offload IMO. It also explains the cheap price, we didnt need to sell him so normally hold out for the market value,it seems the market value we put out on DG was £4,5m quid..peanuts for a prem striker! Sunderland took it up to £5m and he was sold !

I think Dai makes a good point, DG is taking the brunt of the fact Sunderland are playing a bit **** at the moment and who else to blame other than a geordie boy !! it does mention that he is out drinking with the geordie shore lot on the mackem forum though which aint exactly a smart move when your trying to win over the fans !!

Danny's mystery illness arrived after the game away at Newcastle did it not ?? after his illness he never really played a part in the team ever again apart from the xmas program or to cover injury to others, there seems to be something in that :)

We are a smallish squad. When supposedly key components of that squad are not role model professionals, it undermines everything that is expected from the squad. If DG was not making his professional self and the team and club is absolute number one priority then time to move on. For the money these guys make its the least we can expect from them. Clearly he hasn't gone and made himself the #1 forward at Sunderland and MON is no fool. Whoever was buying players at Sunderland didn't do their due diligence it seems.

Reading what the Mackems are saying it looks like the signing was totally down to o'neil in which case it looks like he has ****ed up !! DG was always going to be on a hiding to nothing signing for them but reading all the comments on the mackems board i cant help but think ive heard alot of what they are saying all before!

As i said i liked DG very much but it seems he didnt fit in with what Laudrup wanted from a striker, im guessing his lifestyle may have made the reason to move him on more urgent as the official line is that the swans tried to replace him but were more than happy to go without a striker if they could secure the correct target, thats pretty damming verdict on danny's abilities if you ask me! and it tells me they were desperate to take the money and run !

I wish DG all the best he did great things for us in our first season and scored some very important goals this season too, will be remembered as a decent signing for us and will always get a warm welcome at the Liberty when he returns.

Agree that Sunderland are crap, and DG is taken the brunt of there frustration being a Geordie. He's on a hiding to nothing.

I for one don't really care what a player gets up to in his personal life as long as he performs on the field and gives 100% effort each time, and I have to say that's what DG did each game for us in my opinion, so the way in which he was frozen out by ML and then shipped off at a bargain price considering his scoring record in the PL does suggest that there's more to why he was sold than meets the eye.
Will always be welcomed back to the Liberty when playing against us as he was fantastic for us last season <ok>

i think we had a good bargain from sunderland and got rid of a mill stone around our neck. I was not happy missing the boat on bringing in his replacement but now its happened im glad.....not good enough up front in the premiership and not consistent enough....we need much better and now we have a chance and good luck to Danny but he is history now and not part of our plans anymore....

Ye good luck to him, should not have been sold so he liked a few beers he would not be the only one.back in the fiftys my old man used to say a few of the swans would come on the pitch pissed play like pillocks in the first hlf, but the 2nd half you would swear you were at a difrent game.we would slaughter them. mind you the old vetch was surrounded by pubs in those days,I thought that was a no no to drink the night before a game ,with the modern players or even training.

Even if what he did risked a gaol sentence?

I always liked DG and when I heard the rumour Norway is referring to gave him the benefit of the doubt....but the fact we moved him on without a replacement makes me think there might have been something in it.

If the rumour was correct he was totally unprofessional (..and it would explain how he wasn't totally focused), it was also a criminal act which could have had far worse consequences, and he put the club in a compromising situation....IF IT'S TRUE.

Wouldn't surprise me if there wasn't a gentleman's agreement that he would try to engineer a move in return for the club covering his tracks.

I've got an incline what the rumour might be as it is well known about his apparent affection for alcohol, but because I haven't heard or read anything about it I'm not too sure. That's why I've said there is more than meets the eye with regards to ML shipping him out as soon as he had a chance.

Terrorwit is just confirming to me what I'd heard elsewhere. No smoke without fire and it all looked a bit iffy from that weekend when we played Newcastle away..if memory serves me well. The club have spies everywhere and something like that would not have gone on long before they got wind of it.

Seeing DG warm down on his own away at reading made me think he was being given the cold shoulder by the club then and considering the massive bad publicity the club could have had if rumors were true and he was caught it was a no brained to get rid ASAP !

I've never known the club sell under face value these last few years which tells me a lot about how much they wanted shot of him. Laudrup played the perfect poker face in all of this and it looks like we had a lucky escape with Danny boy. His value to us gone was probably more important than the $5m quid transfer money if the stories are correct.

It's not the first time we have dodged a bullet/acted quickly with this type of thing, lessons learnt from ija Anderson ? Leon knight was another swift departure and the rumors about him were even more crazy !

The Sunderland fans think laudrup pulled off a real coup by shifting him out and getting all that money for a cart horse! Some are saying that he has missed training on a Monday up at the mackems, apparently a similar thing happened here too.

Having seen DG on the field the other day he looked to have put on a bit of weight, didn't look like a player in his prime that's for sure.
