Dewhurst and Middle Park Entries to follow in full:

CHAPPLE-HYAM LOOKS TO TURN BACK THE CLOCK AS DUBAI DEWHURST STAKES AND MIDDLE PARK STAKES ENTRIES ARE REVEALED

POWER & FREDERICK ENGELS ENTERED FOR BOTH RACES

It is 20 years ago this autumn that Peter Chapple-Hyam pulled off a notable double by winning the £300,000 Group One Dubai Dewhurst Stakes and the £150,000 Group One Middle Park Stakes with two different horses, and entries for each race, unveiled today, Wednesday, July 27, reveal that the trainer could be represented in both contests this coming October.

For the first time in history, Britain’s two premier juvenile contests open to colts take place on the same day, Saturday, October 8, Future Champions Day, at Newmarket’s Rowley Mile Course. The Dubai Dewhurst Stakes over seven furlongs has attracted 92 entries, while 63 have been engaged for the six-furlong Middle Park Stakes.

In 1991, Chapple-Hyam took the Middle Park Stakes with the outstanding subsequent 2000 Guineas hero Rodrigo De Triano and followed up in the Darley Dewhurst Stakes with the unique Dr Devious, winner of the following year’s Derby.

This season, the pick of Chapple-Hyam’s juvenile crop appears to be the Ziad Galadari-owned Al Khan, entered for the Dubai Dewhurst Stakes following a comfortable success on his only start in a six-furlong Doncaster maiden on July 7.

Chapple-Hyam revealed: “The Doncaster race has turned out well; there was a lot of talk about other horses in that race. Going there I thought Al Khan would win but when I found out that others were fancied, my bottle went a bit.

“He is definitely alright and we will probably send him to the Group Three Acomb Stakes (August 17) at York next - it will be a difficult race because it always is - and then we will see where we go from there, with the Dubai Dewhurst a possibility if all goes well.”

Chapple-Hyam has two engaged in the Middle Park Stakes, a race he also took with Dutch Art in 2006. The once-raced Samminder won nicely when taking a six-furlong Yarmouth maiden in May, while the Dutch Art colt Dick Bos, owned by the Comic Strip Heroes, is as yet unraced.

The Newmarket handler continued: “Samminder had a little bit of a break because he started growing but he is on his way back now.

“Dick Bos is an unknown quantity and it may be pie in the sky at the minute but we will see.

“It’s that long ago since I won the Dewhurst that I can’t even remember what colours Dr Devious was wearing! I’ve had a few horses placed in it over the years as well.

“I don’t think any of these are Dr Devious or Rodrigo De Triano but then very few would be. I have some very nice two-year-olds this year though, so that’s one good thing and we will see how they progress through the year.”

Ireland’s champion trainer Aidan O’Brien has landed the Dubai Dewhurst Stakes twice (2001 Rock Of Gibraltar, 2009 Beethoven) and the Middle Park Stakes three times (2000 Minardi, 2001 Johannesburg, 2004 Ad Valorem). He is responsible for 27 of the Darley Dewhurst Stakes entries and nine of the Middle Park Stakes entries with unbeaten Group Two Coventry Stakes hero and current QIPCO 2000 Guineas favourite Power engaged in both contests.

Frankel took the Dubai Dewhurst Stakes in 2010 and trainer Sir Henry Cecil has entered that colt’s unraced full-brother Noble Mission, as well as three other well-bred Juddmonte homebreds in the unraced trio of Continuum, Wrotham Heath and Stipulate.

David Brown has entered his exciting colt Frederick Engels in both races. The powerful juvenile has won his last three starts, including the five-furlong Listed Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Group Two TNT July Stakes at Newmarket on July 7, in which he defeated Coventry Stakes runner-up Roman Soldier.

Also entered in both races is the Richard Hannon-trained Harbour Watch, impressive winner of his two starts over six furlongs, while the handler has engaged the smart pair of Chandlery and Rougemont in the Dubai Dewhurst Stakes.

The John Quinn-trained Red Duke defeated Chandlery to win the Group Two 32Red.com Superlative Stakes at Newmarket on July 9 and is another entered in the Dubai Dewhurst Stakes.

Jim Bolger landed a hat-trick of wins in the seven-furlong race with Teofilo (2006), New Approach (2007) and Intense Focus (2008). He has entered Group Three Tyros Stakes runner-up Parish Hall and Zip Top.

A particularly exciting entry in the Middle Park Stakes is Family One trained in France by Yves Barberot. The Dubai Destination colt has won four of his five starts and was very impressive when landing the Group Two Prix Robert Papin over six furlongs at Maisons-Laffitte on July 24.

Mikel Delzangles is responsible for the other French-trained entry, Eden’s Drift, third in a Longchamp maiden in May.

The Kevin Ryan-trained Bapak Chinta is another notable entry in the Middle Park Stakes, which the trainer landed with Amadeus Wolf in 2005. The Speightstown colt is unbeaten in two starts having seen off Frederick Engels at Hamilton in May and then defeated Boomerang Bob to land the Group Two Norfolk Stakes over five furlongs at Royal Ascot in June.

The David Wachman-trained Requinto landed the Group Three Molecomb Stakes at Glorious Goodwood on Tuesday, July 26 from fellow Middle Park Stakes entries Burwaaz, Charles The Great and Crown Dependency.
