The Offside Rule: Instead of being offside anywhere in the opposing half, should there be another line painted, halfway between the half way line and the penalty area, with offside coming into affect goal-side of that line?
Hi Dev, that's an interesting one, I'm trying to visually mentalise how the game would change with this rule. I don't think midfielders would care for it much! They would be up and down all day.
No, the playing surface would then begin to look like a Rugby pitch! Now that would really confuse the women folk!
The rule change a few years ago in which a player can be in an offside position if he is not actively involved in play confuses things in my opinion. I always thought that football, being a team sport, meant that every player on the pitch was actively involved in play.
Certain forwards would have loved this rule. Only having to trudge half the distance back for a goal kick.
I've been told the offside rule is simple. Why is it then that the ref and his linesmen often look like three blind mice?
I got a bit messed up there. I was thinking about Devs proposed rule. At the same time I was going to use your answer to highlight certain forwards reluctance to cross the halfway line, from there it went horribly wrong!
