With the Blue Square North and South semi-final 2nd legs today and numerous 'finals' coming up soon, what alternatives can you come up with to replace Penalty Shoot-Outs?
Morning Dev, sadly, other than silly ideas, I can't really come up with much. It always seems ludicrous to me, that an entire league campaign can come down to a play off, penalty shoot out. I'm not the biggest fan of play offs as it is, but to decide who goes up a league, by a penalty shoot out, just seems a looney idea to me. I remember how I felt at Villa Park, all those years ago, still to this day, which was only a semi final of a cup. I can't begin to imagine what sort of summer we'd all have, if Pompey lost a play off final to penalties, after say, finishing third in a full season, to lose it all to 5 spot kicks. The only thing I can think of is, going back to the golden goal, and carry on till someone gets it.
I think the golden goal should be used, with both teams taking 2 players off the pitch every 10 minutes until it is scored. I don't know what will happen if it gets down to just the 2 goalies though
..........and their bus fare home, as Jim Bowen used to say. "This is what you could have won........." wouldn't go down too well with the losing captain though, would it ?
One issue decided on penalties already BS North Semi final 2nd leg Boston Utd 3-2 Guiseley (agg 3-3) (Guiseley win 3-2 on penalties)
