A big test this week-end as early [joint] frontrunners Chesterfield visit Fratton Park. Are you going? What do you think the score will be? What do you think the attendance will be? Were any of you there for the league fixture in 1983?
1) YES 2) 2-1 to Pompey (goals from David Connolly and Andy Barcham) 3) 15,200 4) YES - I remember the match well - PFC won 4-0, and the crowd was I believe 13,003................good old wiki
1) Unfortunately not - wish I was though. 2) 1-0 3) 17,000 4) No - was abroad in those days. This is game 5 of 46 - Not time to start panicking yet. It's a brand new team still learning how to play together as a team. 2 new ones in last week. We just shouldn't be expecting league beaters at this stage of the season. Of the first 4 games we lost 1 drew 2 and won 1.
Actually Stewie, I was at the match in 1983. Up until 1987 I was living on the outskirts of Portsmouth (Cosham), as didn't move to the 'South Island' until 1987
Its going to be a tough one, so i WILL PREDICT A DRAW, WHICH WILL MEAN IT WONT BE, LETS HOPE THE POINTS GO THE RIGHT WAY FOR US!PUP. Oops looks like I have used my outside voice!
It's a long way to travel for Chesterfield fans. I reckon they'll bring a few hundred though. Attendance of about 15,000?
I think Tony Benn is a Chesterfield supporter. Not sure if he is likely to pop down to Fratton Park - even with a promise of a mug a tea.
Here's our team for today. Sullivan; Moutaouakil, Devera, Bradley, East; Holmes, Ertl, Ferry, Barcham; Agyemang, Connolly (c) Subs: Smith, N'Gala, Butler, Wallace, Padovani, Craddock, Bird Johnny Ertl is back in the side but not as Captain, Connolly keeps the armband.
We're playing 4-4-2 Chesterfield playing 4-3-3 I think Guy has gone for a more defensive outfit this match by bringing Ertl back in.
Thank god we went in 0-0 at HT. Ref is particularly bad - amongst all the bad refs in this division. 1st foul was definitely a penalty. 2nd foul sounds clearly a penalty. The one thing that should be outlawed is surrounding the ref though - it's a tactic that teams use and bloody useless refs fall for. wusses!
