Was just reading this story on the BBC http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/13811219.stm If something similar were to ever happen to Saints, and Portsmouth made the same offer, would you take it up? Personally I'd be insulted and tell them to get ****ed. On a secondary note, what would you do with your Saturday afternoons? Would it be down the pub watching a premiership side, or off to watch the local non-league team (Totton, Sholing, Bashley etc)?
On a secondary point....How much for a Northampton/Rushden season ticket???? Makes you realise what good value Saints were giving on season tickets in league one
Or what **** value those two are giving. I guess if your the Northampton chairman though, and you have 4000 people coming to watch you, you must know they are coming no matter what...
I actually think that they are just trying to steal fans from Rushden. If any were to take up the offer I would not rate them as true fans of their club.
The chairman is only offering them a season ticket in exchange for a worthless season ticket, wheres the harm, its not like hes behind some plot to rid the football world of R&D, fair play to him, would not any chairman jump at the chance to increase a fan base. The R&D season ticket holders may or may not take up this offer, does it make them turncoats? does it make David Cardoza the child catcher? not really i used to go and watch Boremuff in the old days just because the Dell used to sell out so often, no harm in having a 2nd team.
It is a nice gesture, but living local, it is a little odd as the fans don't like each other. If it did happen to Saints, (as it nearly did and we were discussing this at the time) I'd either go and watch (but not support passionately) Northampton, or even punish myself by becoming more active and following England.
How can you say that. they have supported their club and now that it has been expelled it is unlikely that they are likely to start a new club. they had an average attendance of 1290. they would not have the support to start a new club. It is a great gesture from Northampton. They will want the fans to come back next year and then support that club. What else are they supposed to do!?
I think it was a generous offer which would increase the attendance and Northampton. Rather depends on the level of antipathy between the 2 sets of fans. Couldn't support Portsmouth myself. As someone said above, if I lived on the mainland I would probably switch to Bournemouth or a local side.
Rushden and Diamond are the result of a merger between two sides already, so perhaps their fans are a bit more open-minded. I expect they're waiting to see if their club is going to enter the Southern League. Some will prefer to stick with original team. I know I was prepared to start again with Saints if it was reformed in non-league if the worst happened.
If and when the club had folded then i could accept that this offer is not just robbing an afflicted rival club. However, if the Diamonds were to survive in any form whatsoever as a fan of theirs(if I was) I would stay with them and support them wherever they played.
If it happened between Saints and Pompey........No I would not be particularly insulted. Why would I be? Whether I would actually go and watch Pompey.....not sure, wouldn't think I would. It is probably the reaction you will get from quite a few fans from both camps I suspect.
