Have plans been finalized for our entering a team from our development squad into the Premiership under-21 league? I have seen many references to this but I cannot find a definitive description of this league or of Charlton's involvement with it, so it might be nice if we could collect all the information here. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepag...r-League-Under-21-league-to-be-announced.html I have heard that we will be playing in the lower of the two divisions because our development set-up does not meet the highest criteria. Will the division be mainly regionalised like the under-18 league? I understand that teams can field three over-aged players as in the Olympic tournament. Are there any restrictions on whom clubs can select as over-age (such as a maximum number of league starts)? I presume out squad would mainly comprise those who were last season's under-18s, plus a few others: Nick Pope Jordan Cousins - Yado Mambo - Semi Ajayi or Harry Osborne - Cedric Evina or Morgan Fox Ruben Bover - Defensive Mid - CM - Callum Harriott Michael Smith - Joe Pigott or Adebayo Azeez Have Bradley Jordan and Bradley Goldberg re-signed for this season? Whom have I forgotten? Funnily enough our development squad looks thinnest in the midfield area, same as our first-team squad, so if we sign a new midfielder I could see Bradley Pritchard helping out with the Development Squad quite a bit and that would be appropriate as, despite being an "under-27", he doesn't have a long history of top level coaching and could still benefit from developing the skills and tactical side of his game along with the youngsters. My theory about him is that having started League football late his career will extend longer, well into his thirties, especially as he is intelligent and doesn't look the type to put on a spare tyre. Maybe our better u-18s would also get a look-in, such as Poyet, Gerard and Sho-Silva? I guess that depends on how "physical" this new league turns out to be.
I see Bradley Jordan played RM against Bromley and Goldberg played for Bromley (still on loan or now moved there?).
I would imagine the development squad would play 433 or the diamond favoured by Paul hart through out the academy set up.
Nick Pope Cousins - Mambo - Osborne - Fox Jordan - Poyet - Cook Azeez - Smith - Harriot Options Dillon Phillips Ajayi Piggott Sho-Silva Muldoon Harry Gerrard My information is that Diego Poyet may play as many games for the U21's as the U18's this season.
Cook is not an under-21. Evina and Bover are. Evina won't be starting many first-team games unless Wiggins leaves so I would expect him to play a lot for the under-21s. Although Evina would seem a natural choice to play left-midfield in front of Wiggins (as young Harriot is the only "genuine" left-winger we have on the books), my memory is that Evina agreed to join Charlton because we promised to play him at left-back, where he saw his future. The fact he rarely got a look in last season even when Jackson was injured would seem to support that. Wilson may get more games because he is happy to play anywhere. I think the idea is that youngsters will learn a lot more playing against well-coached youngsters from top clubs than from friendlies against non-league opposition which often include some crunchers with limited skills and where the games don't replicate the problems youngsters will face once they have broken into the first team squad. So the likes of Evina, Bover, Mambo and Smith should not consider it demeaning to play for the under-21s. They should learn more and enjoy it a lot more than some of the off the cuff fixtures that were arranged last season.
Fabio Sairava is a defender from Ryman League Mertsham. James Ashton is a Chelsea midfielder who has struggled with injuries. Henry Muggeridge is a 19-year-old defender, just 5â5″, who was with Bristol City. Olivier Lusamba is a French midfielder, aged 19, who was at Nancy but has never made the first team. Selim Dean Florence is another midfielder, 18-years-old who was released by West Ham and moved to Norwich. He seemed to have to have a bright career ahead of him at one time. Dorian Dervite is French central defender, 6â3″ tall, who was at Villareal last season but has been on Spursâ books. Has played for France at every level up to Under-21. Devite is the only one of the six being considered for the first team squad. http://www.kentsportsnews.com/bromley-0-2-charlton-athletic-28-07-2012/
