I have 3 sons who all live and work in London, my eldest used to go to City matches back when they were at Boothferry Park although he doesn't go these days very much. My youngest son is not interested in football at all but my second son has just posted a photo onto Facebook of him at the Emirates today and declaring that it is his first football match and that he is a Gooner!!!! Naturally I have declared him a traitor and banished him from coming home until he repents!
He's a disgrace to the regiment tell him. I have two sons, three grandsons and 2 great grandsons carrying on the family tradition by following the Tigers. Hope he see's the light in the near future.
Sat around the table for dinner my son was showing obvious signs of nerves. The conversation had stalled several times and even though I was trying hard, it was apparent that there was something wrong. Had he lost his job? Was he ill? Problems with his relationship? He rushed to finish his meal, so I had to hurry the question? Do you want me to get you a ticket for City next week? No, Dad, "I will be at the Southampton game, my home club"' he shouted as he marched out of the front door. I had never noticed, never seen the signs. His words rocked me and I turned to my Daughter who throughout had sat in silence. "Sorry, Dad, he's coming with us, after all he is Southampton born and bred". All I could say was "the shirts, all of those shirts, I bought him! All of this time and I never knew!" It still hurts, even yesterday when I was invited round to watch Southampton on the telly thoughts drifted back to the time when we stood together watching City. Now I know he was only there for the pies!
In mitigating on your prodigal son's behalf, there could be a tenuous link of hope for the lad in the fact that Terry Neil played and managed both clubs, and living in London has deluded him in to believing that he will now speak in rhyming slang and be accepted by the populace. Prepare the fatted calf for his return when he drops his first H and Bertie Mee rises from his grave to usher him northwards in disgrace.
Its shocking that in this day and age that people are still able to become Gooners. I'm not sure how i could cope with the disgrace to the family name. Imagine what would happen if the local press got hold of the fact, they would make life even more hell for you than it is now. Im sure you must be constantly asking yourself if its something you have done thats turned him like this. Have you considered abducting him, and making him go cold turkey at the KC, could be horrific to watch him endure the pain as he goes through it, but could be worthwhile in the end. Good luck i think you are going to need it.....
Having seen the Gooners end at Wembley empty at a fast rate once the final whistle went, relatively only a few stayed to watch the bastards lift the FA cup, I certainly wouldn't want a son of mine being connected with fans like that. You have by commiserations.
In the grand scheme of things, and taking into account the tragic goings on in France, the recent air and maritime disasters that have struck, and with the Ebola outbreak in East Africa you could say there are worse things in life........ Although I,for one, cannot for the life of me think of anything at present!!! Thoughts n prayers with you at this sad time
