Daryl Murphy is close to rejoining the Blues for a third loan spell, according to reports in Ireland this morning. Murphy, whose Celtic contract is up at the end of the season, was with the Blues for the whole of the last campaign and the second half of 2009/10. The 29-year-old midfielder or striker, who returned to training yesterday after a hamstring injury, is surplus to requirements at Parkhead and is understood to be keen on a return to Suffolk with his family having settled in the area during his most recent spell here. This for me is a sign of desperation, we have probably failed in our attempts to bring in other players and have gone back again for Murphy, who, in my opinion, is average at best and is yet another uninspiring loan!! HOW MANY MORE ****ING LOANS JEWELL?
probably makes sense on this occassion but I agree with the worry of if we will add many more loans. From reading the report you have posted, he will have been here for 2 and a half seasons by the end of this loan spell and will then be out of contract. His family is happy in the local area so I would assume we would then sign him for nothing. So basically we have a player here, who will probably then sign for us but at present we dont have to pay all of his wages or a transfer free!
The thing is tractor bhoy (without your smugness) do we really want/need him, i think there are far better players out there, i honestly do not think this guy is that great.
your right spanish this is a sign of desperation. all i will say is that he will do a job for us and can play out wide left or up front. wouldn't have wanted him back at the end of last season but he is better than nothing!
I'm not a massive Murphy fan either, however he was quite good last season. Offers something different than what we have, offers slightly more defensively and also a threat in the air. I know what your saying re loans - however, would you rather us pay say £300,000 and ALL of his wages, or NOTHING and probably 40%? I know what I'd prefer
Whilst he never set the world alike and probably this time last year when we signed him I was a bit puzzled after seeing him in a few games I was very impressed with him out on the left. He worked hard and his positioning brought a good balance to the side, he was also very good from set pieces in a defensive way. It also meant we could lump it to him from time to time, not that I like hoof football but we do need to be able to change it up from time to time. As I think we saw on saturday when our A game doesn't work atm we can't change it up and play the long ball because chopra is not a target man. Also we have some very good attacking players in JET, Martin & Carson but all of them can blow hot and cold, they are more flair/luxury players, although Martin and Carson do work hard Murphy from what I saw last season offered us a bit of solidity and balance to the team. Whilst I'm dissapointed it's another loan, it doesn't really feel like one as he's been with us for some time and I would imagine we may well get him at the end of it on a free!! Plus it means we now have better cover for 2 positions LM and upfront. Whilst we can still strengthen in alot of areas if Murphy comes back the only glaring hole in our squad IMO is CB.
Completely agree with you Itfcptc. Whilst he doesn't hugely excite me either johnnywarksmoustache, he does offer something we don't currently have and adds competition for places. Logical signing, well done if it goes through.
Perhaps we should be sponsored by Ocean Finance? Or perhaps we could consolidate all our existing loanees with a permanent signing?
Yeah i get what you guys are saying and if we bring in a couple of permanent signings alongside the loan of Murphy then thats fine. My problem is that i feel this will be instead of, i guess it comes down to the lack of exciting signings, left with a feeling of being underwhelmed by the transfer activity.
Spanish - the smugness was only ever a temporary joke thing after one of JWM's fly off the handle posts from a couple of weeks back I freely admit that he is nowhere near a glamour signing but with our formation it would probably be suicidal to bring in a 'flair' left winger. We need height, presence and workrate to go with the flair of Martin, the talent? of JET and hopefully the poacher threat of Chopra. With his bulk he can hopefully fulfil both the left hand role and come in to help the striker when play is building on the right.
Can't believe this, not really sure where this comes from but wouldn't mind it coming off!! http://www.greenun24.co.uk/ipswich-...ugh_duo_george_boyd_and_paul_taylor_1_1496351 Still no CB though!!
I would be amazed if this comes off! I can't see Peterboro wanting to sell they're best players for peanuts
Also, with the number of CM's we have and the possibility of Murphy on the left, Signing Boyd seems a little odd as we would then have an abundance of midfield players, I would rather have Boyd probably than Murphy (maybe Murphy is an alternative incase we aren't successful?) but I can appreciate Murphy was solid for us last year. If we sign these two for the reported £1.5million I would be pretty happy as Taylor is a bit more of an explosive player and can run in behind defenders (Which we saw last season) which neither Chops or Scotland have in their lockers and Boyd has a bit more craft so all in all I'm hopeful we can sort something out
They are transfer listed because they are in the last year of their contracts and refused to sign a new deal. After last nights game PJ said the bid has been accepted now... lets hope the contracts get sorted....
I would welcome a centre half with open arms at the moment, Regarding the 2 peterboro boys, I hate to say this but i have a feeling that George Boyd is being bought as a replacement for Lee Martin because i bet you that Keano signed him on a huge wage and now we are trying to reduce it!
Boyd will be a good signing no doubt, but I think the Taylor signing is a bit puzzling. He has got more pace than Chops but doesn't have the poaching ability. Regarding Murphy, he adds some strength to the team. Like many have said, he's not a magical player with lots of flair and dazzling runs but he is mostly reliable and consistent; something which can't be said about JET. I think we'll just sign him on a season long loan every year till he is released. Final point, why is it that when we lose, and Paul Jewell starts taking the flack, he always pulls something out of the bag and takes the pressure off him? He must have a long list of good things ready to reel off after a dismal performance!
Midlander, since we have signed Chopra I have yet to see anything other than a glimpse of his poaching ability!
