I know the signing of Lee Bowyer will polarize opinions on here but I for one think that he is the missing piece in our jigsaw! We have been crying out for years for some steel in the spine of our team. Someone with experience who knows what its all about to play in the Premier league. I would rather have Bowyer than Norris any day of the week!

Yes Bowyer does come with baggage but surely we can forgive him for something that happened over a decade ago. Lets judge him on what he can bring to the table. A steely determination and a hunger to win and to dominate the opposition and to drive on our midfield. We have simply been too powder puff in Centre Midfield which has been proven with the number of soft goals we have conceded.

People will be bound to say that he doesn't fit in with the "Ipswich Way" but although I am guilty of this we have to recognise that we need to find the "winning way" and if it means having a hard man in the side then fair enough! Bowyer over Norris is a no brainer in my opinion.

Im with you 100% warky...fanatstic player, knows what to do to get possesion back, and will help us not lose many games. Yes, he's past his prime, and will also demand high wages, but we need to speculate to a certain extent. Who's norris?, Not too sure who you are referring to there. Will also be fun if we end up signing dyer as well, and come to that Bullard as well. (are you alowed zimmer frames on the pitch?) I think, if Bowyer is signed, then him and hyam in the middle will be a great team. Now all we will need then is a cb, right back, and a one more quality forward, then its job done!

Lowton from Sheff Utd a young right back about the same age as Cresswell with the same qualities. Sheff Utd fans really rate this kid and don't want him to go. We are linked with him so who knows!

Bowyer and baggage - he was acquitted and this incident was nine years ago or so.
    He's hardly Marlon King !

    Would be a cracking signing.

If you want to talk a player with baggage that would be Nathan Ellington. You better get up for the challenge and remotely interested Nathan put it that way....!

Agree totally JWM, Nothings winds me up more than fans keep bleating this nonsense about the 'Ipswich Way' during those times we had Big Al thundering into tackles and making sure a player stayed tackled! Bowyer could be the most important signing for years!

I agree JWM , Bowyer is what is needed at ITFC .

I wouldn't worry about the "IPSWICH WAY" cos it was RK tried to **** that up and we're still ere and he was apparently at the helm. Bowyer is a fiery type of character but MR PJ is the man in charge . So glad RK is gone ..

Just one interesting fact that I have read on Bowyer is that apparantly he has picked up more yellow cards than anyone else in the Premier League during his career! If that is the case then what more proof do you need that he is the man we so desperately need at the heart of our midfield!

Fact of the matter is if we had a Lee Bowyer type of player at Carrot Road last season, Grunt wouldn't have got upto his antics. Firstly because he wouldn't be given the chance and secondly he would be too busy choking back up his teeth after Bowyer had lamped him for being an annoying ****!

man of Steel. And we are linked with a Sheff Utd Player. (Insert Pun here)

Matt Lowton is a cracking player as well, blades fans hold him in incredibly high regard and he can play in a holding midfield role too. One of the only positive things that came out of their season last year. As for Bowyer. I agree he would be a useful asset (although aren't Leeds also linked with him) As for his contribution, he's always been a box to box midfielder, although with far greater affect and positional sense than Norris, would we still need a natural 'holder?' Also it would be very interesting if we signed Dyer. I feel if we sign one we wont sign the other.

<cheers> Gets my vote and I am particularly pleased to hear him quoted as saying....... "'My record isn't that bad,' he said. 'If you are talking about football. There have been a lot worse. I've not done stuff like Patrick Vieira or Roy Keane. Still gives me cold shivers though every time I see that name linked to our great club!

'We saw him as a wide player who could excel in central midfield.'
'On a free transfer he was too good to miss.'
'Many regarded Lee as a pariah. The same objection was placed in front of us. We knew it was coming. We knew we'd take a whack but we were prepared to take that blow. We calculated that this would be a two-day controversy, after which we would be able to get on with our lives.'
'He never gave us a moment's trouble. His commitment to the club was first rate and we knew of no off-the-field indiscretions to cause us alarm.'

    - page 241 Farewell but not Goodbye, My Autobiography - Sir Bobby Robson

A ringing endorsement from the great man himself! If he's good enough for Sir Bobby he's good enough for us!

How about Clark Kent, we could have a telephone box set up near the dug out and he could be our super-sub.

Bowyer would be perfect. Everyone talks about us needing a creative midfielder like Koumas or Dyer but what we really need is someone who can get stuck in a control a game, running from box to box and ensuring we keep possession and make the most of the ball. If PJ is to play 442 the attacking emphasis will be more from wingers sending in crosses that through balls from central midfield.

Would be ecstatic if Bowyer signed. He is that tough tackling midfielder who can ensure we retain possession, not to mention his very name would be enough to put some players off going into a 50/50 tackle. Think he could be a very useful acquisition and hope that it all goes through.
