18/10/2013 By David McIntyre There will be no divided loyalties for Shaun Derry on Saturday â he wants Millwall to beat QPR. The veteran midfielder, who is on loan at The Den from Rangers, joined the Lions after it was made clear he was not part of boss Harry Redknappâs plans at Loftus Road. And Derry, who is ineligible to play in this weekendâs derby, explained: âPeople might presume I am split by the game, but I have been on loan before and have always vowed that, whichever shirt I am pulling on, my loyalties have to be towards that club. âThat is the situation at Millwall. This is the club that has decided to give me the chance to be involved in the first team and I am thankful for that, so that is who I will be backing.â Derry, 35, was signed as a squad player when Neil Warnock took him to QPR from Crystal Palace in 2010. He ended up having a leading role in Rangersâ promotion to the Premier League â and is convinced they will be back in the top flight next term. âEven this early in the season, it is QPR and one other for automatic promotion,â he said. âThey are strong and have an abundance of talent. But regardless of that, they have had a very settled defence most of the season. âThey have only made the odd change, for example Clint Hill coming inside from left-back to centre-back. âEven when Harry Redknapp does that, they have Benoit Assou-Ekotto to come in, who Spurs originally bought for £3.5m. âYou only have to look at the players they brought in on deadline day â people of the level of Assou-Ekotto, Tom Carroll and Niko Kranjcar â who are full of ability. âThe club has different boundaries financially to most Championship sides. The depth of quality is on a different level to everyone else in the division.â http://www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/football-news-millwall-v-qpr-shaun-derry-loyalities-75421-html?
He's a footballer near the end of his career looking for some fans' backing and a contract. I would expect nothing more... Although perhaps keeping his mush shut would have been a better option.
Yes, fair play to him. He had a dig when he was with us and now his loyalties are with Milwall, good luck to him ................. I think he's being honest and we can't ask anymore than that. I too am glad he's not playing.
Hope he's not filling his new teammates in with special insider tips about how to really needle Joey Barton or cuddly pet names our players might have for each other; some things should really be kept in the dressing room, the rotten mercenary rotter.
Good move for him as lets be honest his playing days are nearly gone ... Lovely man and a brilliant servant to the club
He was very good for us - a honest pro amongst aload of money grabbing can be arsed to play for the shirt players. He is after extending his career at Millwall so he has to play the game to get a contract there.
