The guy is full of honest endeavour which is endearing particularly in the modern age of football. Definitely deserves his shot at the Premiership. He played a key role in getting us promoted. He provided invaluable protection to our back four.
Quite simply we would not have been promoted without him. Interesting to see that Warnock did not see him as a starter when he signed him on. Just who was he excpecting to fulfil that role? Leigertwood?! The problem for the coming season is that he and Faurlin may get swamped by counter attacking PL teams who typically have much more pace that we saw in last season. We need a box-to-box midfielder to counter that. Smith would be the obvious choice - has he featured in pre-season?
I think Smith is great but I have the feeling that he gets tired and wouldn't be up for box to box play.
Warnock was due to play Buzsaky in tandem with Faurlin at the start of last season before Buz got injured pre-season and Derry took the slot. Smith isn't box to box in a zillion years im afraid... Rowly is the nearest we got and his boat has seemingly sailed.
My biggest worry is his age. He was superb for us last season, the best I've seen at QPR in his position for some considerable time. On balance, I think he could surprise a few people and, even at 33, do a really important job for us in 2011/12. I do reckon Buz could do a job there as well so maybe we do have some cover there.
Derry deserves his chance more than most. You can call me a sentimental old fool, but I'd definitely give him more than a fair crack of the whip.
Derry was outstanding so deserves to play in the prem and using buz as a holding player would be a sin.fingers crossed he will soon be back to his very best.
Something undoubtedly happened between him and COLIN last year. When he was returning to fitness Warnock said he couldn't wait for him to be back; that he tried signing him THREE TIMES during him managerial career and that Rowlands getting fit would be like a new signing. In fact he was all over him with praise. Then he decided to play Connolly in midfield ahead of Rowlands for some reason. I believe there was a bust up between the two. Its a shame because out of all our throw-away's, he's the one I think has Top Flight quality and application.
As Deano says, it WOULD be a sin but Buz's best position is in the centre of an attacking midfield and Adel has that position sewn up. Therefore, Buz may not get much game time, which would be the bigger sin imo, and therefore he would be welcome cover for the defensive midfield. I've admired his defensive workrate in the past and, although he may not have Derry's tackling ability (who has?), I believe he could do the job there. Someone said on another thread that Warnock's plan last year was to use Buz in exactly that position and Derry was to be a squad player.... until Buz got injured.
