I'm going to open this debate cos i feel in 3 of our last 4 games he has been well below the standard we have come to expect of him. He was off the pace at Fulham , Blackburn and yesterday. Would you stick with him or move barton into the middle and maybe start with someone else on the right ?

I personally hoped Derry would do a job this season , first few games i would have said yes , last 4 i'd say no. What do you think ( beats talking about adel all the time ).

... which is difficult when you are trying to play your own game and be Adel's cover as well.

If Adel doesn't play i think that his days are numbered. We will end up playing like we did in the second half, back four, Faulin and Barton in the middle with two up front.

He's always gonna be the fall guy when we tweak the system, age and the fact that Faurlin and Barton use the ball better will mean he always makes way when the subs come on. That said he isn't the only player who's form has dipped in those games. I still think Faurlin could be more effective as a playmaker further forward.

I genuinely don't know the answer to this one. I am delighted he has got his chance in the Prem and am praying for him to score a goal at home, just to see the place erupt. But I suspect when we find our strongest team/ formation, he won't be in it especially after the next transfer window.
Would any other Prem team buy him/ take him on a free from us? Doubt that too, so perhaps the answer is no.

Derry's been great for us, but for me Joey loooked a lot better central midfield than he has looked wide on the right, and better than Derry in the holding central position Derry has played.

Yep think he might be dropped and Warnock has stumbled on his starting 11.

anyone would have looked bad against bale and vdv yesterday, their pace and touch are frightening so I'm not retiring derry to the knackers yard just yet.

i would start with the 2nd half team on Saturday and wont retire Derry as he deserves his chance in the prem, but to be honest will it really matter because Man City will stroll to victory on saturday, lets just hope its not total destruction, its not wot happens against the likes of city, utd arsenal or spurs that will decide our fate more likely swansea, norwich, wba, wigan were our fate will be decided

Heart says we need to keep Shaun Derry. there are times when he reads the game better than others plus he is one that destroys the play rather than starts it. sometimes his positioning will stop our opponents. When it comes to giving 100% you can't knock it - At should learn from SD that it has taken him 17 years to reach the top level...and SD won't throw that opportunity away.

Head says that come Jan, 4 new players will arrive (purely a guess on my part - two strikers, a midfield and defender.

Yesterday was a lesson from a very good premiership side that are unbeaten, and make the ball do the work. Not many teams would have beaten spurs yesterday not when all their team seems to be playing at the top of their game

Derry has been great this season apart from 2 poor displays one being yesterday he was simply outclassed as were most of the team. I think he will eventually be dropped to the bench but what a player to have as a squad player in training and in the dressing room. He leads by example and I for one think we are very lucky to have his services this season and last would love him to stay with the club in a training capacity looking into the future.

I think the thing for me is that he was so poor against blackburn and Fulham aswell as yesterday. I admire the work he has done for us over the past two seasons but am unsure now. He was hauled off at half time vs fulham and spuds , and tbh was the worst player on the pitch against blackburn. I think he may have just dropped out of the starting x1 for the first time since he has joined us.

Hopefully next time he plays he puts that all to bed and proves me wrong. Like the fella and believe he is 100% QPR , but just am unsure now.

Derry is great but I think it's time for Warnock to go to 4-4-2, which means leaving him out. Bothroyd seemed to play far better with another striker than on his own, and Barton could move into the centre with Faurlin. Derry could come on if wee needed to hold on to a lead, replacing a striker. I think Warnock should go for :

    Kenny

    Young Ferdinand Gabbidon Traore

    SWP Barton Faurlin Mackie

    Bothroyd Helguson

I think most would agree that Derry last season and so far this season has been 'our' hero. He has played beyond anyone's expectations and was as solid as any midfield general I've seen.

Alas he is coming to the end of his days on the pitch and I think now is the time to start using him as a utility player. He has started to show signs of not keeping up with the pace which is a shame, so I'd rather we use him to help secure things when we're a goal up than try and keep him running things until that day when he drops a clanger and we all hate him for it. Love the guy, but sometimes you have to face reality that players eventually have to be let go or become bench warmers.

But he will be a legend in my eyes for years to come.

Absolutely spot on.I think Derry has been great for us this season, but has been found wanting in a couple of games.Everyone had a shocker first half yesyerday, except Paddy and Heidar, but 2nd half Barton looked excellent in the middle, and Jay looked better with a fellow striker alongside him.At last we might get to see 4-4-2 played at home!!

I'd stick with the 4-2-3-1 but agree that Derry probably should make way to accommodate Barton in the middle. He was fantastic at Everton and has looked good enough in the majority of games and will have a role to play for sure with injuries/suspensions but, for the good of the team, it ought to be Faurlin and Barton in the centre with SWP and two others ahead of them behind the main striker.

Unfortunately so probably will Warnock despite the evidence set before him yesterday. Only HH is capable of playing the single striker role with any effectiveness and even then his efforts are wasted by our midfield failing to join attacks quickly enough. And Bothroyd was a revalation playing alongide the Iceman. It surely must be 4-4-2 against City for everyone other than NW and Watford!

Re Derry: he may have been found wanting recently but even his poorest performances have been miles better than many others on the pitch.
