Do you think St Johnstone boss Derek McInnes would be a massive gamble in our current position.
Has had no managerial experience in the English leagues.
Although now again I like to take a punt, I do have mixed feelings and I'm not sure I would be totally comfortable with this appointment.
He could be, a great up and coming manager bound for the premiership or another Benny (and you know where that took us!), god help us!!

Would like to know the general feelings amonst the fans......

The league is irrelevant - as whoever it is will have to deal with the existing squad (i.e. no new players), they have to be a quality man manager which is something the Scots seem pretty good at...

His ability is something that the board will have to suss out but as I have said on other posts, leaders are usually pretty easy to spot as they have a certain aura about them...

If he such a solid candidate why did he fail the interviews at all of these clubs and the league he manages in is not all that strong either....

'He has also been linked with managerial positions at West Bromwich Albion, Watford and Burnley in recent seasons and was believed to be close to succeeding Jones at Cardiff earlier this summer before Malky Mackay eventually landed the job.'

4 interviews,4 failures and Scottish football league,I'm impressed with the guy but, just playing devils advocate, would he be right for Bristol City FC......?

NO NO and NO! Show me what this guy has won? Which big name players he has managed? Which club he has truly turned around with no money to spend? A gamble? one to many me thinks.

i agree i don't want this guy managing our club, i want somebody who has done this league before, someone we know who can get us out of this league and i don't mean relegation, this guy isn't a big name.

Dave Jones, O'Neil or Billy Davies, if neither of these get appointed i will be very disappointed in our board, BUT i will still back the new manager 100%

whats with this, we need a big name lark, we really don't.

Whoever is placed in charged will be wanted by some and not by others.

Its nothing to do with a big name its to do with finding someone with the energy the experience and the skills to turn this club around. one name i see the florist fans are touting is the young m k dons boss, done a cracking job since taking over from ince?

I think we need someone with experience which kind of points to Davies or Jones at Championship level.
I must admit I don't take a great deal of notice of scottish football, so don't know much about McInnes.

Exaclty. All this 'big name' boss lark is pointless as they are all un-employed for a reason. Billy Davies would be a travesty, he'd fall out with the board in days. I would much prefer a young manager with a point to prove that will lift the club and shape it how they want.

Shiny's well informed 'bloke from st Johnstone' has achieved more there than his predecessor, a certain Owen Coyle. Look what Coyle did for Burnley and Bolton, where the manager comes from is not important in my opinion as long as they have the skills required.

Each to their own though, will be interesting to see who comes in.

Jones would be ok though, depends on whether the board are prepared to give someone say 3 years to prepare and plan for a push at the PL or whether they want a quick fix option to steady us.

I don't know jack about McInnes but what I do know is that Scotland produces some fine footballing managers and coaches. My opinion is that they are hard nosed and take no crap and this pushes their players to perform at higher levels to maintain their places in the team. That is exactly what we need right now as we have quality, just lack of organization and very little passion.

4 years experience as manager.. done extremely well with st johnstone..

bit of a gamble..but alot of managers with less experience than him doing well, look at mckay.. lambert.. freeman..poyet..

Could be a gamble worth taking..

I also hope he can bring in his own backroom staff

Ive got nothing against you Shiny but my god, you dont half talk some ****e! McInnes is a highly respected young manager who has taken St Johnstone to great hights. hes won a division with them & achieved two top 8 finnishes! hes a great man manager & would get the best out of the players we've got! Scotland & certainly St Johnstone ALWAYS produce excellent manager! btw if you really think O'neil, Hughes & the like would come here then your kidding yourself! get real & grow up abit.

And two top 8 finishes in Scotland.......well I'm overwelmed!!!! Great heights..................WOW

Two top 8 finnishes with ST JOHNSTONE is a great achievment! they wernt even in the top flight a few years ago! i dont just base my knowledge from WIKI, i have family who live in Scotland & know everything about Scotish football, ive also been to a few St Johnstone games and seen first hand how energetic & motivated McInnes players are! Dave Jones would be my first choice with McInnes a very close second! were Bristol City, not Aston Villa (O'neil) or Man City (Hughes). some people need a reality check.

O.R so 2 top 8 finishes in what standard of football?Without the top 2,where would you place the SPL?I think you should apologise to Shiny, the only thing he gets wrong is at times over enthusiasm. He gives this board a bit of a lift and people like you come on and berate him,and spout **** about your family, who know all there is to know about Scottish football.I could write everything about Scottish football on the back of a stamp.
