I remember seeing him when he made his debut against...Leicester,I think?....thinking how small he was. Did really well for us though....never had much of a chance with Monty first choice. RIP Derek. Edit: Just read the club thing...it was Leicester...good to know my memory hasn't gone altogether!! Memo to self.....read the info before you post!!
I really nice guy.I played squash with him at Crowtree Leisure Centre, unbelievable player and impossible to beat. He helped me to set the club up. RIP
RIP Derek. As someone has mentioned, it would have been impossible to wrestle the goalkeepers jersey from the legend that is Monty, but Derek proved himself to be a very capable understudy.
I'm another who was there to see his debut in 1964. It finished 3-3 but he wasn't responsible for any of the goals. He's a relatively young man ( same age as me) so his passing is sad indeed. RIP Derek.
