I'm a bit surprised with that.

Derby are mid table and had some hope of play offs.

My other half is delighted because they're playing Ipswich on Tuesday.

"He was the fourth longest-serving manager in English football, behind Arsene Wenger, Paul Tisdale and Chris Wilder, and the longest in the Championship."

Steve McLaren is tipped as a possible replacement, he was a coach at Derby under Jim Smith before he went to work for Fergie...

"The search is well under way to identifying and appointing a successor, and further announcements will be made in due course," the statement continued.

Based on that, like our referee today, it appears that Nigel Clough was already deadman walking?

You couldn't blame McClaren if he applied for the job.

Nah, I never rated Brian either, Queens. Any old fool can win league titles with two unfancied Midlands clubs, plus back-to-back European Cups with one of them and a few League Cups. No FA Cups means he was an abject failure, dunnit?

have to say i am suprised. I thought Derby looked quite good this year and had a chance of playoffs.

I must admit the one i'm suprised has not been sacked yet is Dougie Freeman. he can't have long left .
