Interesting read from Mr Bird here. http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/opinion/columnists/simon-bird/Simon-Bird-s-Sunderland-vs-Newcastle-preview-Why-the-Tyne-Wear-derby-is-still-the-best-in-football-article785905.html

It's nice to see him big up the importance and passion of the derby but I simply can't agree with what he says about the options for each club.

'This time around Sunderland have renewed composure in the form of Wes Brown who made an impressive debut. They have options that Newcastle can only dream of up front with Asamoah Gyan, Stephane Sessegnon and Connor Wickham vying to start.

In fact they have options Newcastle would only dream of in midfield too, with the likes of David Vaughan and Craig Gardner made to wait for a starting berth at Liverpool.'

I'll concede that Brown is a top defender, no better than Colo though. Apparently Gyan, Sessegnon and Wickham are options we can only dream of. That would be Gyan with a decent scoring record, no better than 1 in 3 or 4 I'd have thought. Sessegnon who although looks ok has hardly set anything alight, and Wickham, a boy with no Prem experience what so ever. However I do concede our options up front are limited too.

Furthermore it would seem that Vaughn and Gardner are midfielders we could only dream of having. Don't know about anyone else on here but Tiote is twice the player Vaughan will ever be, and I'd rather have a french International and Ligue 1 winner than Craig Gardner.

Outrage aside, It'll be a close game and a draw would be pretty good outcome for us

Gyan is no 20 goal a season goalscorer & I don't really rate Vaughan. Slow and old, Tiote anyday.
