A little perspective to consider: Blackburn 1 Cardiff 1 Cardiff 3 Huddersfield 1 Cardiff 1 Wigan 0 Good so far...yes? Wolves 1 Cardiff 0 (would have been a worthwhile point but foe the last minute own goal by a player who did it on purpose) Fulham 1 Cardiff 1 (we are the only side not to beat Fulham in the league to date...disappointing result but a point nevertheless) Cardiff 2 Norwich 4 ( a good Norwich side, but we were the masters for over half an hour, before it went tits up. The crowd could see it, and sang : Ole, Ole sort it out, but he showed no passion and didn't act quickly enough). Had we held on, things could've been so different. Cardiff 0 Middlesbrough 1 (unforgivable performance, again no passion) So, Apart from the last two results, it could have been considered a steady start, not great but steady. It is then possible that we can get an unlikely win at Derby, under the two old boys, Sparkey has predicted a draw, so that is out of the question. Most pundits suggest a tanking for us, but maybe, just maybe, we can pick up on the better earlier form...here's hoping! :
Derby defender Jake Buxton is available again after serving a one-game ban following a red card. Striker Jamie Ward should keep his place in the side after scoring twice on his return from a hamstring injury. Danny Gabbidon could name himself in the Cardiff squad as he leads the side following the departure of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Craig Noone and Kagisho Dikgacoi have stepped up their push for full match fitness but may not be risked. Head-to-Head • The last meeting ended as a 1-1 draw at the Cardiff City Stadium in March last year. • Cardiff are unbeaten in the last six meetings, winning four. Derby's last win was 2-0 at the iPro Stadium in May 2010. • Cardiff are unbeaten in the last three meetings at the iPro Stadium, winning two. Derby • Derby have lost only one of their nine games in all competitions this season. Their only defeat was 3-2 at Charlton in the Championship on 19 August. • Derby have won three of their four home games in all competitions this season, drawing one. Cardiff • Cardiff have not won any of their last three games, losing the previous two. Their last win was 3-2 at Port Vale in the Capital One Cup on 26 August. • Cardiff have lost only one of their five away games in all competitions this season.
Cardiff city team: Marshall (c), Brayford, Connolly, Manga, Ralls, Whittingham, Gunnarsson, Adeyemi, Noone, Pilkington & Jones. Cardiff subs: Moore, John, Morrison, Daehli, Guerra, Le Fondre & Maynard.
Didn't expect both Noone and Pilks to start - very, very attack-minded setup with Ralls in there as left back (presumably) as well. This is either going to go tits up, or we'll win it by a margin.
First half with backs to the wall - going in all square is a bonus. Holding a very deep line to counter the Derby midfield and Kenwyne is like the Lone Ranger up there. Noone and Pilks playing very defensively in support of their FBs. Marshall has pulled out a couple of super quality saves to keep us in it. In the middle of the park Whitts trying very hard but still seems very slow getting the ball forward and has been caught with it a few times. Another player trying hard is Adeyemi, but to be honest, he looks a bit amateurish on times. Up till now we've not caused them any real problems, but 0-0 at HT is OK. Wonder what Gabbs and Scotty are going to do to change things - or do they need to?
