Always remember him from the 1974 World Cup Finals If memory serves me correctly, even had a decent golden boot record, not many then would have been from pens.
brilliant finisher and his goal per game ratio was stunning Years Team Apps (Gls) 1963–1964 1861 Nördlingen 31 (51) 1964–1979 Bayern Munich 453 (398) 1979–1981 Fort Lauderdale Strikers 71 (38) Total 555 (487)
I was just reading, Klose surpassed him but needed twice the number of games to do so, he took 132 games to pass Mullers record.
plus back in his day you didn't get to play San Marino , Andorra and ****ing Gibraltar to pad your record .
Show how good my memory is on it, I haven't looked this up btw, but I'm sure the Germans (West Germany) got held, maybe even beaten by the East Germans in the early group stage of the 1974 World Cup, that's as easy as it got. I know Zaire and Haiti were in those finals, but don't remember Germany playing them.
I remember one of them, either Zaire or Haiti, getting beat something like 10-0....either that or I just made that up in my head.
I remember getting my prediction wrong in the final I think the Netherlands scored first as well. Someone will pop on later and tell us we remembered it all wrong.
He was one of my heros when I grew up. Great finisher, much to be admired. Including playing in a number 13 shirt! Obviously Bobby Charlton was my absolute hero, still is
brb and Solid showing their ages here, you old ****s Can't argue with them stats though, guy must have been a beast!
