Anyone thinks van gaal should forget about playing depay in the middle and play him on this wing where he will be more effective and run at defenders? This is the same thing he did with di Maria. I think the same might happen with depay if van gaal keeps insisting on playing him in the middle.
Good shout, I just said the same on the 'Official Thread' being used for the Barca game. He looks good technically, plays with confidence, but I'm not convinced he's a number 10.
Van gaal is very stubborn, I'm sure he will continue playing him in the middle and probably costs us some games before he learns. Mata and probably Herrera would be better no 10. Why play someone who's not natural there?
Oh you'll be hearing about it from me on this board if he does his crazy 5hit. I think he looks at the knock on effect. To him Mata is better on the right than any other player, and Depay is probably physically stronger than Herrera. Fck knows tbh but he looks at every angle rather than looking at players in their best position. He played Rooney in CM don't forget!
He played Rooney in cm and di maria as striker while Herrera sat on the bench. We dropped too many points before he realized Herrera is a better midfielder than Rooney. He is a good manager no doubt, but he is very very stubborn and sticks to his philosophy no matter what. We have a good squad to play 4-3-3. I still think we need to buy pedro now that it is likely di Maria is leaving. With attacking trio of depay, Rooney and pedro we will be unstoppable. Mata should play in the middle. Well its still pre season, I'll reserve my comments until the season starts. I just hope we don't drop some silly early points before he does the right thing.
I had us to win 3-1 with Rooney as first scorer and Januzaj as last scorer. I've just become a millionaire Rodney.

Mata is best as the number 10. But tbh folks if it's a choice between Mata on the wing or LVG not playing Mata at all, I'll have him on the wing.
If u ask me I think it's better we play 4-3-3- especially against a team that keeps the ball. Playing Memphis upfront or as no 10 makes us 1 player short in midfield and we will struggle to get the ball especially against teams that like keeping the ball. Put Herrera in there with schneiderlin, Carrick/Bastian and we have a strong midfield. Herrera can be the box to box/ no 10. Mata could still play on the right or get a faster more direct right winger. Our counter attack will be faster and more deadly with Memphis and probably pedro Manning the wings.
Agree with most of that. Personally, I think we should play Herrera in a box to box role next to Carrick/Schwein with Mata in front as the AM. Btw you do realise if we sign Pedro it's even less likely Mata will play. I sometimes think Mata and Herrera are not LVG's favoured players. He waited until injuries/suspensions forced him to play them late last season. I wouldnt be surprised if he's just waiting to get his pawns into position before phasing them out. Then again, who knows, we're in 4 competitions and he may rotate them all brilliantly.
Lol, yes a team like Barcelona . I know we got the win today but they played without their 2 best players. Actually 3 best players because Messi is 2 in 1. He plays right wing and no 10 simultaneously. Oh they also missed alves.
