Evening all, We have signed a former player of yours Deon Burton on a 1 year deal, I was just wondering what are the positives and negatives to both him and his game? Many thanks, GFC-Matt
I like him- a good player. His hold up play with his feet is superb, and he even jumps well for a shorter target man. His only downside would possibly be his goal return. But don't worry, that's because he is usually doing his partners donkey work. If you have a good "striker" then you have a fine player on your hands.
With so much digital photography around these days, I'm not sure anyone under 40 will get that one, Kish. Get yer coat.
He will get a lot of fouls called against him, all 50-50's will be called against him and quite often 60-40's in his favour will be called fouls against him I think refs can't work out how he wins so much ball in the air so assume he must be fouling.
Prior to Yann Kermorgant I've never seen a player who can jump so high (relative to their height) as Deon Burton. Despite being fairly short, he wins everything in the air. Brilliant hold-up play, I read a few Sheffield Wednesday fans refer to him as 'velcro-chest', and its quite apt. Other than his hold up play, he takes decent penalties and is capable of some real 'poacher' style goals (though his goal to game ratio isn't amazing). Decent energy etc too.
I rated Burton, will work his socks off and as everyone has said, for a short player he is quality in the air. Puts the team before himself, i remember at one point for us he played about 6 months with a double hernia, hope he does well
