Several reports are saying that with the Spurs clear out Parker and Dempsey could be offloaded In the price region of 2/4 mil each,i for one would love to see Demps back, any views on either of these 2 for next season.
I've been watching Spurs recently and both Dempsey and Parker were good for them, so I don't see a need for either to leave. There's other weight that team that needs to get shed before those two, particularly if Bale leaves. I think Dempsey scored 13 goals for them while playing only about half the available minutes. They should keep him.
Can't see Clint coming back to us, after they way things went before he left. I know from Spurs fans that they haven't taken to his style of play, but I don't see why they want to sell a good utility player like him, but for that price you'd think Liverpool might put in an offer. I'm not a Parker fan and gone past his sell by date, again Spurs fans say he hasn't been playing well since coming back from injury, I can see Harry's QPHaHa's coming in for him.
This may be controversial, but I'd take Clint back in a heartbeat. His passion more than anything we have sorely missed up front, and having an attacking players to do all the running for Berbatov instead of the sluggish Ruiz could make all the difference to our attacking approach. I think Jol would love him back here too, he's always bleating on about how we've missed Dempsey, absolutely 100% I would take him back. As for his unceremonious departure? Bang a few goals in and it will all be forgiven, football has become a fickle game.
We rejected a derisory bid from Liverpool for him and he refused to travel with the squad to Switzerland for our pre season tour.
Regarding Parker, I can't see how he will fit in the team if we sign Boateng. Which apparently we have on a 2 year deal?
If they're talking about selling him for less than they paid us, it wouldn't be a bad deal. I'm not so sure where he would fit into the team though. Would you want to put him on the left ahead of Kacaniklic? We've had a better shape without Clint. As for taking Ruiz's place, I think he contributes a lot more than we sometimes acknowledge. With the current midfield options, he's the main person for making incisive passes. If we just dropped Dempsey into Ruiz's position in a post-Murphy era he wouldn't get anything like the number of goals that he did last season. So, would I take Dempsey back? I'm not against it, but there are questions concerning where he fits into the team now. I hope we get some new midfielders so that we aren't so creatively dependent on Ruiz, who I accept can be frustrating, but putting Dempsey back into the current team would answer some problems while exacerbating others.
It was worse than that, remember Bandy? Liverpool's owners announced on their website that they'd signed him, and Rodgers tapped him up in the most blatant way possible, during an interview! Found the quote:
One of the things I've learnt through life is that you can never go back. It's never quite the same and I am sure Clint would find things had moved on and our style of play had changed - as Capt. says quite a few of his then team mates will be ex team mates when the season starts and he would be forging new relationships which may not be just as effective. Much as I like him I think it would be wrong to have him back.
I could argue that he would complete the team we're trying to build now, rather than be shoehorned in like Demps, but I won't. I'll just tell you to do one!
Captain, you pretty much spoke my mind here. As frustrating as our lack of CM play was against Swansea, we saw how much potential there is for a Kaca/Berba/Ruiz axis. Add Dejagah to that mix and I think we have a very promising first choice front four. Would Dempsey be better than any of those four? Dempsey wouldn't improve our CM play and arguably would be competing for Berba's place. So while I wouldn't say no to having Dempsey back (he's still a great player), I don't think it really suits him or us.
Liverpool put in a £2m bid for him, but Fulham turned that down, but then Liverpool's parent company in America, put out a story on their website that they had signed Dempsey, but Fulham denied it and were proved right, that Liverpool had tapped up Dempsey without their permission. Dempsey was angry and refused to talk to Sunderland who's offer of £6m was accepted by Fulham, and then Dempsey made a statement that he would never play for Fulham again, so Jol dropped him from the first team squad, and on the last day of the transfer window Tottenham bid £6.6m and he was sold.
It is a regret that Clint left, especially the manner of his going. But I agree Never Go Back. However, Dembele just proves to be the exception to this rule - Take him back in the blink of an eye !!
