First post.. Hi everyone. Let's hear it for Dempsey. I've been lurking around these parts for a while, and there's been a lot of vitriol directed towards the black-eyed American. He was fantastic tonight. COYS J
is it me or is he a liability.as a spurs fan for 45 years i just don't see what he brings to our club.i was cursing him tonight and praying for him to be substituted and then he scores
been a yido since i was knee high to a grasshopper moved from west london to high wycombe 26 years ago and go and watch wycombe and spurs when i can
Welcome I was pleased with him too. He looked lively and was doing more to break down a stubborn defence than anyone else. I don't think we should go back to the days of having a left winger that doesn't stay on the wing and I don't think he was "fantastic" tonight but he had the right attitude and even when things didn't come off for him they were the right things he was trying to do.
from what i gather his best position iis left wing so its funny that players play their best football when picked in their best position however as yv says, he wasnt fantastic and drifted away too much from the left. he will be the type of left winger that attacks the centre from the wing, rather then the natural winger like bale. So as our left side gets exposed often, we need demps to stick to his position and make runs into the box at the right time. Overall though we need demps to start scoring as freely as he done for fulham and that will only happen if he plays in his best position.
FYI - I've merged the two threads together, they're conflicting opinions from the OPs but I think it makes more sense to have all the Dempsey debate in one place
8000 odd posts and this is the first time I've seen you here, not sure I believe you're a "Spurs fan" Dempsey hasn't reached his Fulham heights yet, but he is not the main man here as he was there so that can't be expected. He's getting better with every performance, 2 assists tonight, what more could you want?
maybe i am being over critical after watching the likes of waddle ,neighbour and ....................BALE
He's visited here a few times before, I don't think there's any reason to suspect he's not a Spurs fan. There's also a Gillingham fan who supports Spurs too and pops by every so often.
trust me i am a yiddo at heart , i am not judging him on tonights performance just from what i have seen on the tv and what i have seen on my visits to white hart lane.admittedly i don't watch the mighty spurs as much as i used to but please don't insult me ,i have followed spurs home and away and in europe and luv em to bits.
thanks yv,i have to put up with gooners and chelski fans at work and last week was my best for ages wycombe won ,chelski got beat by the hammers and best of all the sheep shaggers from swansea beat the woolwich nomads
Yeah fair play to Clint, the past few games he's been really good and showing why he was a sought after player and one of the league's best attacking mids. Think he's got 4 assists in about 5 games now hasn't he? Could even be more. Glad he got a "goal" last night too, though no doubt the dubious goals comittee will give it as an own goal from the keeper due to the ball bouncing in off him.
He has been better in the last couple of matches. Before that he looked off the pace. Scored (ish) last night and provided the assist for Ade too. Can't complain with that contribution.
I must be watching a different game to you lads Dempsey has improved over the last few games, but he's been far from good, IMO. yes he's set up a couple of assists and scored last night (debatable ), but his general play has been poor; mediocre at a push. Time and time again he gives the ball away or ****s up his pass completely. I saw him pass it out of play once, if not twice last night. He gets caught in possession too often, so therefore he's chasing the ball all the time to win it back! - that's probably why his work rate looks so good! He's improving gradually (he couldn't have got much worse IMO), but If I was the manager, I'd be giving Sig or Falque a run in the side by now. Dempsey's had plenty of chances and he's just not been good enough for me. - A shame, as I thought he was good at fulham. I'm yet to see it in a spurs shirt though.
I have to agree with Roo, the good things mentioned here were in amongst just as much, if not more poor play. Had we had opponents that weren't so keen to stay in their own half for an hour, it would probably have been a very different story. The constant loss of possession was quite staggering, but he wasn't the only one guilty of that.
Don't get me wrong mate he's not setting the world alight at the moment but I think his general play has improved and he's been a lot more involved in games where as before he was a non-entity, with 4 (I think) assists in 5 games plus a "goal", it's not been a bad return from I player who I would have happily considered selling all ready in Jan.
Yep, I'd agree SOS, he's improved. But his performances were so far below par, that the slight improvement hasn't made a lot of difference IMO. Despite the assists and the goal, a player playing in the 2 positions he's being utilised in needs to be doing much more over the 90 mins.- i saw nothing fom him last night. I don't want to end up sounding like GH10 and Lloris over this, (except a hate rather than a love) but I'm struggling to see how he's going to work for us. Dempsey is a good player, I just don't think he's ever going to be a tottenham player. However, I really hope I'm wrong and you can all stick 2 fingers up at me In so many ways he reminds me of Pav. I see a lot of similar frustrating characteristics. Fingers crossed he will improve, but it's concerning after 15 games + cups games..
