"Clint Dempsey usually seems quite a chilled-out entertainer but, faced with the explosive cocktail of a US Open Cup tie against Seattle Sounders' fierce rivals Portland Timbers, the fact his side were losing in extra-time and were already reduced to eight men, he lost it in quite sensational style. Seattle had already gone a goal behind before their first sending-off, but the evergreen Obafemi Martins found an equaliser to take it into extra time, only to be forced off through injury with no substitutions left. The Timbers' Rodney Wallace (not that Rodney Wallace, mid-90s Premier league fans) then made it 2-1, before the Sounders were down to eight players when Michael Azira saw red for an elbow. The US national team's captain then saw red in every sense, tearing the poor referee's notebook from his hand before ripping it up in front of him - comfortably satisfying the criteria for dissent, it's fair to say - to receive his second yellow card.” Click on this link to see the moment: https://pbs.twimg.com/tweet_video/CHrXOlsW8AEtR28.mp4 Source: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...nts-a-new-way-to-get-yourself-a-red-card.html
I thought the post-red extreme sarcastic clapping in the linesman's face was worthy of comment too. I think he'll be a bit embarrassed all round when he looks back on that match.
