Sturridge. Younger, and after a few threats from Rodgers, that he'll be on the first plane back home, I think he would be a better investment than Dempsey.
If it means getting rid of both Downing and Adam, then yes. We can count Downing as an expensive mistake, all managers make them. Those that say otherwise are liars.
I'd swap downing for sturridge. why? cos rodgers can play borini, suarez, sterling, gerrard or even cole wide in his 3 and so dempsey at 29 ins't it. Sturridge fills a big gap in terms os a pacey striker that carroll and borinin can't fill.
Suppose we could keep Downing as cover for Sterling when he needs a rest? Maybe he could become the most expensive boot-cleaner/apprentice on our books. Seriously, people go on about Andy (who I definitely think deserves another season, especially with the way he ended last season) but it was Villa who saw us coming, not Newcastle. I still can't understand why didn't offer City a straight swap for Adam Johnson, or even cash plus Downing. I know the feller WAS a skillful player once, no doubt, but apart from the CC final I find it really, really hard to remember him actually beating his full back? Am I being harsh?
I'd pick sturridge... I'm not a downing basher but wouldn't be sad if we sold him. What kind of wages is he on? We've got decent cover for downings role.
Isn't Sturridge going to cost upwards of 20mill? Really not sure I want to pay that much for someone who's another gamble.
I'd take Sturridge for anything under £15m. However, I think Dempsey remains the main target (as per the Echo) but I would love to see both. Out of all of the players that I would like to see leave the club, Downing isn't at the top of the list. Players like Adam, Spearing, Cole, Carroll are ahead IMO but I wouldn't be sad if he left.
Highly doubt you'll be getting Sturridge for anything less than £20-25m, aside from Torres he's our only striker.
Of course... the real question is... would Chelsea even sell to us, or is this paper talk? Chelsea arnt overflowing with strikers themselves.
I think the issue is really Dempsey for 8mil, Sturridge for 18mil. At those prices I would go for Dempsey, getting better year on year and I think would fit the squad well. Sturridge is more of a gamble in my eyes, but perhaps the rewards if it pays off will be greater?
Would rather Sturridge but Dempsey looks more likely to sign. Rodgers should sell Downing ASAP as I cannot see him getting in ahead of Sterling, who looks deadset a key player for Liverpool this season after only one game.
I think Dempsey will come in first regardless of any other outgoings at LFC. But I think we would need to sell some players before anyone else comes in.
Personally, i don't see either of those deals as value for money, hence me saying 'none of the above' earlier on
25 mill for sturridge? You been at the smack again Drogs me ol' china? Surely Roman will have another striker lined up before the window slams shut. No way can you push for the title and play CL with just the ladyboy.
