Skysports.com understands Ivory Coast star Guy Demel has set his sights on a move to the Premier League this summer.

The Hamburg defender, who had a short spell at Arsenal earlier in his career, is keen for another crack at plying his trade in England.

The all-action defender is believed to be available on a free transfer and the news has alerted a number of clubs in England to his availability.

Hamburg general manager Frank Arnesen revealed over the weekend two clubs in England were keen on signing Demel and the 30-year-old is keen to win a move to the Premier League.

"My wish is to go back to England and I would like to play in the Premier League," Demel told skysports.com.

"I have instructed my agent Willie McKay to find me a club in England and I know he is speaking to some interested clubs.

    Time is right
"I used to play at Arsenal but that was a long time ago and I am ready to go back.

"I am more experienced now and my desire is to return to England.

"I have played six years at Hamburg and had a good time there but I feel the time is right for a new challenge.

"Every player would like the opportunity to play in the Premier League where every weekend you play against top players and top teams and this is what I want.

"A lot of my Ivory Coast team-mates tell me how good it is play in the Premier League and it would be nice to play alongside them or against them."

Fits the bill for an experienced defender in the John Mensah mould but without glass legs and ankles.

For free its a no brainer for me. 6 years playing week in week out at one of Germanys top clubs must count for something surely?

30 is a good age as well. 2 or 3 good years out of him still yet?

Agree with Cest. Bit of a no brainer. The experience factor can never be underestimated either, which is something we sorely miss right now. Demel and O'Shea would be a great bit of experience at the back.

Not for me, sounds like a mercenary after one last big pay day.

Rather have Hutton any day of the week

and I like Huton, however we need defenders and have limited funds so maybe an experienced freebie leaves more for up fron.
