No, it's not about me this time. As it's a slack period I thought I'd offer something more pertinent than haircuts and foreign holidays to discuss. Now, I'm trying to be objective here. Old "My Goal!" 'Arry has claimed he wants to challenge Messi and Ronaldo and be the best in the world. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44541927 It's not the first time he's said this. I applaud his ambition and desire, but I think to have that accolade you need more to your game than just being a consistently high scorer. I say "just" - obviously scoring goals is great, it's what wins games, but Leo and Cris offer this and a lot more, imo. Salah was a consistently better performer than Kane last season, but even he needs to do it over a few seasons before he can measure up to the other two. For me, Kane just doesn't have enough of an all-round game for him to be considered in this vein, and his style means he never will. He could become the top scorer, but not the top player. As I said, I'm trying to be objective and non-partisan, so an equally even-handed discussion would be nice. I can dream, can't I?
Well in about 5 years when they’ve both retired he may have a bit more of a chance, but the fact both Messi and Ronaldo help their teams win more trophies in one season than Kane probably will in his career with spurs is just another reason why they are superior players.
Agree with that Saint. Kane is a top goal scorer, he has that ability to be in the right place at the right time, to find that yard or two in a penalty area to allow the chance to score. Its something that can't really be taught, some players just have it. Kane demonstrated this with both goals v Tunisia. But Messi and CR are in another realm altogether, they can create for others aswell as for themselves. Lots of great footballers about, but those two stand out as remarkable talents. Kane just isn't that type of player.
Better to do it with actions other than words, opening your mouth is just inviting pressure onto yourself and has the potential to make yourself look a right mug.
Tbf to him, the media are all over it and trying to get something quotable (aren't they always?), but he doesn't do himself many favours. It's funny how during the game on Monday, all the commentary was about how frustrating and pedestrian the England performance was, then the second goal goes in, and suddenly we're all "buzzing" with success. I thought the second goal was really well taken, btw.
It was, but the result merely papered over the cracks. Kane is not in the same league as the other two, who are 'total footballers'.
If we look back to the season, the media attention he had over the goal claiming seemed to affect his form and that could happen again, the English media are the biggest barrier to any success as they heap pressure on the team.

For Harry Kane to be ambitious is not a crime, this time, maybe he is biting more than he can chew. Harry is only 24. Messi is 30, time on the side of Harry, but must not be disappointed if his dream failed to materialise.
messi was winning a lot more by 24 than Mr kane. Mr kane has signed a new deal at spurs to lock hint here for his best years. He will be a foot note in history... perhaps as good as shearer was it prob with just as fee medals. I really don't look forward to his punditry. shearer is bad but at least you could listen to him
Overall contribution on the pitch, big game performances and consistency is what separates. Kane seems more like a player who could be great in his position, no bad thing, but I don't see him as the type who could drag an average team to a final because he doesn't offer enough in other areas of the pitch. We use Messi and Ronaldo as a yard stick and both have something more to offer than just goalscoring.
Nah his form dipped when spurs brought him back about 3 weeks early from injury in order to give him best chance at getting golden boot.
C.Ronaldo is going to storm the Golden Boot imo. Already got a hat-trick against Spain and yet to play Morroco and Iran, he could be on eight goals before the group games have finished!
You're right, of course - but my point was that goalscoring, though obviously great, is not in itself enough to put you up at the top of the pile. Trophies won is down to many things, and the team you're in is crucial. Gerrard was a far better footballer than many who'd won more than he, in better teams than ours. Kane's impoverished trophy cabinet doesn't provide the full picture, for me it's simply the fact that his game is too one-dimensional compared with the ones he aspires to.
To give him some credit, his workrate improved dramatically last season so that when he wasn't scoring he contributed unlike Alli who is a passenger when not playing well.
I think Kane probably only meant goal scoring anyway, he doesn't realise there is more to football than that.
Kane did nothing else in the Tunisia match, bar score two goals. Whilst that is what he's there to do, it doesn't put him in the same bracket as those he mentions, who consistently run through the entire fabric of almost every game they play in.
