They cannot be serious!! http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/91459-Martin-Oneill-Your-thoughts-please
Why not? Used to play for them during their successful period many moons ago so might be up for it - only thing would be money which was why he left Villa. Wouldn't think any less of him - still a legend to me.
BigFox - Exactly, because of the money I could not see him going there and if Doughty is going to leave then that leaves them further in the ****. I too though would not think any less of MON if he did go
Fickle fans with ideas of grandeur, no money, no defence....... Louis Walsh would struggle to see the potential at Forest never mind MON!!
MoN would have seen how much money Schteve had to spend and laugh in their faces if they asked him. Pretty obvious that he would be the fans first choice Any club would have him as a top choice, but most clubs supporters know when they are aiming too high.... but not forest aparently. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,,11727_7220014,00.html
Lads...Lads ... Think we are being a wee bit too parochial on this thread ... whilst we would all like to think that MON is forever cast in blue and white, the truth is that he has just as much reason to feel affection for our 'non-caring about Leicester' neighbours as for us .. He has also been out of a job for a very long time ... I do however feel that unless he is promised at least 'some funds' to help build the team - either loanees or for the January window, then he may feel that the risks are not worth the potential reward of a return to management with, lets be honest (but said through teeth gritted), a club with a good name and history ... albeit a ****e ground (couldn't quite manage the reasonable and balanced throughout - too many years spent standing in that crappy corner watching us get nothing!)
The stumbling block for MON to go to Forest would be the acquisition panel. He came to us with not a lot of dosh to spend. Think Forest would be a draw for him. Cant see him going anywhere without total control over recruitment - even if there is a small budget.
I hope that if he does go to Forest then we give him a good reception. It was so cringeworthy when we played Hull last season. At 1-0 we started singing 'Nigel, whats the score?' after the guy brought us from the depths of despair into the play-offs.
*Ring Ring* MoN: Hello NF: Want the job with us at Forest? MoN: Whats the objective? NF: Promotion MoN: How much can i spend on transfers? NF: Nothing *Phone goes dead* NF: ... Hello ...
It's not a big enough job for him. He's known for leaving places after taking them as far as they can go - Wycombe, us, Villa. Forest can't go anywhere so what's the point? Besides he's had enough of these kind of jobs. He's not desperate to get back into management and if he was going to get another job he'd want a really big one.
I doubt O'neill would go to Forest. I think he's holding out for a big job (maybe Spurs if Harry goes to England or Arsenal might become vacant soon). In the same way, I don't think Billy will go back and I don't think the board will consider turning back and grovelling to him. Davies must have a smug smile on his face right now. I think Dave Jones might be a good appointment for them.
O'neill would be mad to go to forest! He had a great time there as a player, BUT to go back as manager would be a ***** but it will never happern he is a very clever man, When he came to City he had walked out of Norwich after doing well at Wycombe! he knew the lower leagues, Norwich would not back him were city would and did. this is were he made his name, forget Celtic if Strachen can do well there anyone can! Think that like alot of managers that left city for so called better jobs he will never get back to the idol status that he had with us.
You could do a lot worse that Dave Jones. Good at working on a tight budget. Not the most charismatic though. I think he'd gone as far as he could with Cardiff, but he took us quite a long way forward and made about £30M proffit in the transfer market in 6 years. That would appeal to your board.
