Don't get me wrong I am not jumping up and down in outrage about the delay in changing the status of Saints to a PL team in BBC and other websites. We are Premier League whether they say so or not. However, I think the status should be changed as soon as it is known after the season finishes. Any changes at Bolton, Blackburn and Wolves are surely relevant to the Championship and not the PL. Similarly for any sales/purchases at Saints, Reading etc. At the very least they should do it immediately after the relevant play-off.
Its probably easier for sites (like bbc) to do all the changes that the same time, in one update, so end the month.
Well, the last league game was only yesterday! To be honest, I think they're justified in leaving it as it is for a while as most people checking the site will want to see the info about the season which has just finished rather than loads of tables with nothing in them.
Due to ongoing cut backs at the BBC, John Craven is the only qualified member of staff to do the updates but he's out filming in the country side. He'll do it as soon as he's back.
If any mods could tell us when we're going to be put in alphabetical order on the prem board on 606 that would be good!
I'd imagine it's a basic database change but it makes sense to do it roughly the same time as the fixtures come out. Probably one big script to do everything... shouldn't need to shut the website down
I would expect there's a bit more to it than that but they should have a staging environment to get everything right before it's made live, so you're right to say there's no need to shut down the site. It's pretty rare these days that anyone actually shuts down a site for anything other than major changes.
Don't worry PL, league 1 isn't that bad! I'm sure you will enjoy, I do it miss it in some ways, FA Cup 1st round...no international breaks, losing 2-0 at home to Rochdale...ahh those were the days!
If I remember correctly, for every season since I been monitoring Saints progress on the BBC Football site, they've always been later than everyone wants. It seems to change round about the 1st of July sometime. I wouldn't worry - they're not suddenly going to go back on promotion and relegation for one season, just because it's us. It'll happen. Just not as soon as you want.
I'll echo what Saint_Ford says. If Portsmouth FC get themselves sorted, I'll predict one thing - you'll win at least as many games as Saints will..! And that's the trigger. You'll get used to winning again, and it's a bloody good habit to have. If the Pompey core support is all it is cracked up to be, you should have at least as many people at matches as in the Championship, simply because everyone prefers to see their team win more often. Seriously, I'm betting you'll like League One after a few weeks.
This is very true. But it is a somewhat humbling experience standing in a state of the art 32000 capacity stadium watching Dagenham and Redbridge. Good thing though taught us all that proper football exists outside of the premier league which is something which the media would rather not let on.
1] Some of us knew this already, and 2] and it's one of the reasons why I was never in favour of a breakaway Premier League.
I always thought the "Late" change over was due to official FA season date, ie the season has not yet finished. If the official season runs, for example, July 1st to June 30th, then we are currently a championship team (as we have been all season) , who have won the rights top play Premier League next season. Of course this could be a load of old bollocks i picked up on Championship Manager or some such game....
Agree with this, no matter what level you are at, people will turn up if you are winning regularly, if Pompey get themselves sorted it wouldn't suprise me if they average higher than they did this year, one downside in that aspect though is the smaller away followings, you've got teams like Swindon and Bournemouth who are quite local however.
